Joining the classic rock party
Hey all! If you've got a couple minute, I could use some feedback, mainly on mix tweaks, but any feedback is cool. Here's the soundcloud link:
https://soundcloud.com/bobcrow/strange-brew
I'm working on a cover of "Strange Brew" by Cream for the following listing:
CLASSIC ROCK COVERS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a well-respected, boutique Music Library that's distributed globally by a really big Publisher. Please submit great, well-recorded Covers of songs by legendary acts like (but not limited to) Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, Jeff Beck, etc., etc., etc. Give them authentic sounding Covers with authentic Rock instrumentation that captures true spirit of the song you choose the cover. You'd be wise to stick to recognizable songs for this pitch, not deep album cuts that nobody remembers. Your vocals should be performed really well, with all the appeal of the original artist. This company offers an EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal, so please be sure the Cover Songs you submit for this pitch are NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. You must own or control 100% of your Master recording. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Thursday, August 27, 2015. TAXI #S150827CR

Re: Joining the classic rock party
Bob I think Ya Nailed it.
The only thing (well two things) for me are, Gingers fills are a bit different. (not a big thing)
And I always thought there were two people singing (on Strange Brew part at least).
I think the Vox would sound good doubled or chorused...But, I would probably leave it the way you got it.
Interestingly enough on You Tube the original has the Drums panned Left the Lead Guitar and Bass in the Middle and the RG on the right. Strange Brew indeed.
Dude I think you have a Winner.
Good Luck,
E J Bell

Thanks EJ - I actually did record a double for the lead vocal, but just used it as a reverb track. Since it's not due til tomorrow, maybe I'll mix in a bit of the dry signal so it sounds a little more "doubled", and see how it sounds...
Cheers!

Hi Bob,
Very nicely done. It all works. Musicianship and production are clean and tight. I'd be surprised if you didn't get a forward.

Re: Joining the classic rock party
Thanks Steve, Cass, and EJ for the encouragement! I messed with adding a touch of the doubled lead vocal, and ended up with just a hair more of that than in the soundcloud mix. (that version is on my taxi page now) Pretty much sounds the same, just a little fuller on the vocal to my ears. Otherwise - telling myself "hands off, everyone digs it!". Submitted, and on to the next one...
