Thanks for reading the post, listening to "Nobody Cried," and your words of encouragement. I really appreciate it!

I listened to both the original and the remix of Nobody Cried and have to agree with all the comments on this post. Where as you solved some of the issues with the remix, there are still a number of the other issues cited that may still need to be addressed, in my humble opinion. Just my 1/2 cent.
believe me, I know your pain. I continue to feel it. To me it feels like getting broken down and forcing myself to rebuild. Not sure of your background, but if it is anything like mine, this is my scenario: played and sang in a number of local bands, and got a lot of compliments. however, realizing the bar for that and the bar for one of my recordings to be used as is for a movie or tv show are so far apart from each other I cant see the second one from the 1st one (a bit of hyperbole lol). I am consciously and deliberately trying to build up my foundation of the "three legged stool" as I see it: 1) song writing/composing, 2) musical performance in the studio, and 3)recording/production/arrangement. All three have historical paths for pro specialists who have made livings from concentrating on just one (and even sub sets of one... back in the day, there were people who did nothing but ARRANGE songs for recording dates.... were very good at it, and made excellent livings). What I have to realize that, since I am trying to do it all myself, it is really a tall tall order to expect myself to be at a pro level on all those points, at least immediately. I have been a member of Taxi for about 3 years, and spent the first year in denial as to where I actually was and my lack of skills. Ive spent the past two years trying to bring up my chops in all three areas, especially the third (I wanted to eliminate the "not broadcast quality" box from ever being checked on my critiques. I'm not there yet, but at least I am getting some positive comments for songs submitted.)
If my journey is of any help, I would suggest that quantization and melodyne are my friends...... and could and should be an often used tool in your toolbox as well. I sometimes use melodyne on not just vocals, instruments too, where it calls for it.
All the best to you, John. Whatever you do, never give up. Keep pushing, keep trying, keep learning, keep growing.
Tim

Hi Tim,
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and listen to "Nobody Cried." Also thanks for giving me your background and input on listing submissions and the Taxi process. I come from a somewhat similar background as you (having played in many bands in the northern Illinois area over the years) and have also learned to refine my songwriting and recording techniques through various Taxi sources over the past 18 months.
When I got 3 forwards this past July, I was excited and felt like I was making progress. But as with many things, sometimes it's two steps forward--one back. I agree with most of the comments on "Nobody Cried" but being a veteran musician, I also realize that two reasonable people can often have opposing musical opinions on the same subject.
Anyway, thanks for your comments!

Just as a side I never understood why the band BlackKeys is classified as Blues anyway. They are not even close.
