first-timer RR: need some specific recommendations...
Howdy... to all you Road Rally Veterans out there...?
I'm needing some last-minute advice:
Based on starting from what I believe are my current strengths, likes & tendencies being
Gospel-friendly lyrics/songs; Country/Americana/acoustic guitar-driven/singer-songwriter stuff; humor/fun/romantic type subject matter (intentionally narrowing my focus as I'm learning my way around)...
what classes/mentors or other sessions would you point me to?
In advance, thanks.

Re: first-timer RR: need some specific recommendations...
last year was my first RR.
What I would recommend is doing the one on one mentoring session. Check out the mentors and chose one associated with the genre of music you do. I chose a mentor who did edm last year. Have 2nd and 3rd mentors choices in case you cant get the mentor you want.
Then the mentor lunches are worth it. Meet lots of cool people and the food was good.
Then the listening panels are worth doing.
Then there are the classes/workshops. I would check the schedule and see which ones interest you.
See you at the RR!

Peter
I'd simply print out the schedules and circle or highlight those that are most closely aligned with your goals. You mentioned what types of songwriting you are interested in, that should guide you. Of course, any class that helps you improve songwriting or production is a winner.
Best

I agree with Casey. I plan on attending 3 classes about writing songs/lyrics.

Peter,
My first thought was tat there are no wrong choices as to which events to attend. I learn a bunch of new stuff every year. But, you might want to look at what your weaknesses are and try to strengthen them. What parts of your overall game need help? Maybe focus on filling any gaps in order to take yourself to the next level.
My two cents only.

Be prepared to be slightly overwhelmed. Last year was my first rally and I tried to do too much. Didn't plan ahead as the others suggested. Make a plan, but give yourself time to breath and do some schmoozing. There's no way you can go to every class you want. Focus on what you do best and hit those classes.
See you there!

I'll be the little-old hippy-dude, looking mostly like this:JAMRecording wrote:Be prepared to be slightly overwhelmed.

Some folks may already know what they don't know.
I'm looking forward to learning about what I think I don't know about what I think I know;
then, if next year comes around, I can look forward to learning what I don't know that I know I don't know about.

Peter,
I haven't been around on the Forums too much lately. Just wanted to say I'll see you at the Rally.
There is definitely a lot to take in. Just find classes and events on the schedule that interest you and have fun browsing around and socializing.
