techie advice needed: Apogee One or Samson Go Mic?

Post by thor » Wed Oct 28, 2015 11:34 am

Hey gang,

I have a 2014 macpro retina laptop. I've been using the built-in mic on my laptop for recording (not exactly going for broadcast quality, just making demos).
I was thinking about getting an Apogee One or Samson Go Mic. Would either of these make a significant difference?

I need my 'studio' to be very small and portable and both of these mics are small.

thanks!

In a word yes, but the Apogee has better AD conversion and a better preamp, which for the price differential it should; you can also use a standard condenser or dynamic mic (and cable) with the Apogee, so it's way more flexible and can grow with you. The Samson is suitable for podcasting and a great value, but maybe kinda hard to work with even if you just wanna mic up a guitar.

You're welcome! One caveat; if you think you might in the near future graduate to making stereo recordings, there might be some better two-channel options at the same price point, so you should definitely continue the research, in that event. :D

Hi!
I have owned many run of the mill ( read:m-audio lol) interfaces and gotten decent results, however,
Since i bought the apogee one my sound quality has been noticably and SURPISINGLY improved, i mean for me, the apogee was a GODSEND!!! I HIGHLY recomend it. Easy to use, solid build, ios compatible, WICKED built in mic (i do use extermal mics a lot but don't hesitate to use the built on n for guitars, ukes, melodica and percussion etc....).
If you can pull it off, i doubt you would regret the apogee one...

I recently have had a similar experience with Antelope's Zen Studio interface; it's years beyond anything that's come before.
