Creepy ambient. Can I borrow your ears, please?

Post by ComposerLDG » Sun Dec 06, 2015 12:37 pm

Hi all, I'm going for this one, and the deadline is tonight (12/6). If you wouldn't mind swinging by and telling me what you think, I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks in advance! :)

Here's the track: https://soundcloud.com/ldigiorgi/im-com ... ou/s-34JwS

And here's the listing: AMBIENT, CREEPY INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a NON-Exclusive Music Library that's placing music in several great shows, including a big cable hit! They're searching hard to find a bunch of spine-tingling, Down-Tempo Cues in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the Title Theme of the popular TV Show American Horror Story: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqJGHL3lnSMQuoting the source: "We're looking for something in the vein of the American Horror Story opening theme (this has a lot of SFX/sound design, which is great) - but this illustrates ambient and creepy without being psycho/thrasher/horror. It has a very slow, kind of 'tip toe-y' feel to it, ticking, sparse percussion accents." Good description library dues! Give them haunting Cues that combine inventive soundscape and clever production techniques to create a downright disturbing piece of music that could work in all kinds of creepy scenes. Instrumentation can vary, but it should focus on a central melodic motif, while layering different elements to keep your Cues tension-filled, forward moving, and compelling. Please submit Instrumental Cues that are at least 2 minutes in length. Easy edit points and non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings are needed for this pitch. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). This Library offers a NON-Exclusive 50/50 deal. You'll get 50% of any applicable sync fees and 100% of the Writer's share. The Publisher will get 50% of any sync fees and 100% of the Publisher's share. You must own or control your Master and Composition to submit to this pitch. You maintain full ownership of the original Copyright and Master Recording. Please submit one to three Instrumental Cues online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PST), on Sunday, December 6, 2015. TAXI #Y151206CC

Kind of close without sounding like the a la! And both are in Bm.

Yours had some synth elements that were a tad bit plastic, if that's intentional or not I don't know.
Other than that your song would fit right in as the song they need if the a la song fit the original, no problem.
Same creepy sleep walker "groove" haha.
Good job I'd say! 8-)

Thanks for the listen and the feedback!

I'm wondering now though...too close to the a la?

You know ... ummm ... if there are two shows, one "inspired" by the other and the second show has "sleep walking" music in the same minor key ...
I don't know hehe but it's maybe close enough for someone to notice.
Then again we're in a very special scenario here putting them side by side like this.
And just because you can do something doesn't mean it's a good idea always.
Blah blah blah  I'm not sure, that's my final verdict. A roaring "maybe"!!!

Maybe you can start in another key, divide and reassemble some stuff or the essence of it at least.
 <-- Feeling guilty of creating more work!

Hi Loren. I like the mood!
I really liked the orchestral parts (at 0.45 and 1.50 or so. I think those were the best parts of this, and I'd love to hear more of those.
I think it can also use a bit more one-shots of creepy sounds and modulation on the synth that happens on 0.15, it feels a bit too straight forward for this (maybe it's just me).

I'm still trying to decide if this is a little too close to the a la. You more experienced guys, what do you think?
