Anybody know anything about "Music Reports"?

Post by keethapple » Thu Sep 13, 2012 11:27 am

Howdy,

I've been getting mail addressed to my publishing company from a company called Music Reports. The have sent a number of "Notices of Intention to Obtain a Compulsory License" as well as various random contracts. On some level, this company represents both Amazon.com's cloud service, MySpace Music, and others.

Anybody have any insight into this? Is anybody working with them and care to share experiences?

Other than the Music Reports website, I haven't found much about it on the web, so thought I'd ask.

Thanks,

K!

One of the production companies I have music with (a production company run by a very famous lady) uses Music Reports for direct licensing. For some reason they went with direct licensing for the first runs of their shows, after which it reverted to the PROs for reruns, etc.

I'm sure they do licensing and rights management for other companies as well. I don't know much else about them but they are legit. I still get checks from them.

If you go on their FAQ area, they talk specifically about the NOI. It appears that someone wants to include your music in a license, possibly a blanket license. It might be advantageous to pursue this as you may have opportunities to have your music licensed through some publisher that already has your music and is using MR to manage the licensing revenues You may have some money coming to you.

I'm sure if you call them, they would be happy to assist you.

If you need legal advice, consult an entertainment attorney, all info in this post is simply from my experience and is not legal advice.

Good luck,

I'm in the same boat. Not a clue who is licensing my music, but it feels like there is no permission on this and the last blanket license I had expired last year. I called music reports 3 x. no human beings (actually there is exactly three) but no one returns calls. Big mystery as to how to get basic questions answered. Website is very little help but I will explore more and post any finds I can. Les
