Hey guys! I have a question regarding this post:
New Listing CLASSIC-Sounding, Original, SOFT ROCK SONGS (late ‘70s to early ‘80s) with Male Vocals are needed by a great Non-Exclusive Music Library for a specific $1,000 placement in an Independent Feature Film that’s premiering at a Major Film Festival. This Music Library has just recently started working with TAXI, and they’ll be feeding their selected songs to the Music Supervisor early next week. They’re looking for original, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Songs that could be found on the same playlists as legendary bands like The Doobie Brothers, Steve Miller Band, Eagles (R.I.P. Glenn Frey), Steely Dan, Daryl Hall & John Oates, etc., etc., etc. Take a listen to the references below to get an idea of the range of Soft Rock they’re looking for: “What A Fool Believes” by The Doobie Bothers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJe1iUuAW4M “Fly Like and Eagle” by Steve Miller Band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1f7eZ8cHpM “The Long Run” by Eagles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI_rkZIuHzw “Hey Nineteen” by Steely Dan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKVb_Q1O9H4 “Kiss on My List” by Daryl Hall & John Oates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pIHILw_ekA Your submissions do not have to be authentic vintage masters for this pitch! They’re looking for songs that generally reflect the vibe and style of the Soft Rock references above, with great musicianship, and a solid vocal performance. Lyric themes can vary, but should be something that you’d typically hear in the late ‘70s to early ‘80s era of Rock music. Universal lyrics are needed, so please avoid references to specific names, places, dates, times, brands, and profanity. Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced artists in any way shape or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). The estimated license fee for this opportunity is $1,000. This company offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE 50/50 deal. Sync fees will be split 50/50. You must own or control your Master and Copyright. Please submit one to three Songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis. No full critiques.
My question is this... I have a song recorded in 1980 that I believe would work wonderfully for this pitch. The problem is I had to get it off of an old cassette, and even with some TLC still isn't 2016 standards. I've seen posts before that say "vintage masters/less than hi-fi" is ok. This one doesn't say that word for word, but does say things like "Your submissions do not have to be authentic vintage masters for this pitch!" ... but CAN they be??? It also says "CLASSIC-Sounding" but also says "Broadcast Quality"...
If anyone could give their opinion it would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!
Marcus

Re: CLASSIC-Sounding, Original, SOFT ROCK SONGS: Question
Hey Marcus,
I saw that listing and since it's the music I grew up listening to, I'm sure I've got a few old tunes that might work. I tend to avoid yes/no listings unless the song has been forwarded at least once. You might try posting the track in p2p and ask if other's think the quality of the recording makes the cut. I don't remember what the deadline was, so I guess re-recording it is out of the question... That would be another option.
Good luck, whatever you decide.

agree with Mike.
If we hear how good / bad the cassette version is somebody might have an opinion.
There are listings run by a library that really looks for AUTHENTIC PERIOD PIECES WITH copyrights to prove it, but from the looks of the text, this isn't them.
Hope that Helps HTH

Re: CLASSIC-Sounding, Original, SOFT ROCK SONGS: Question
Thanks for the help! Unfortunately the deadline is over and my forum post took 3 days to get approved. This particular song definitely wasn't broadcast quality as far as 2016 standards, but I'll most certainly keep an eye out for the authentic vintage sounds posts. Thanks again for the help, very much!
