ProTools - converting one audio track to one MIDI track

Post by SteveK » Fri Jan 29, 2016 1:37 am

Hello TAXI members,
Does anyone know how to convert an audio file to a MIDI file in ProTools? I want to convert a 16 bar vocal harmony file to a MIDI file so I can see the vocal harmony parts. Then I can write out the vocal harmonies. I'm working on ProTools 12.4 version.

Any assistance here is appreciated.

Steven Bruce
P.S. Feel free to call me at (619) 437-1553. I'm on a deadline with this. Thanks!

the only way currently is to use Polyphonic mode in Melodyne plugin which would allow you to export a midi file of the audio. It might take some cleanup though because of the way Melodyne does polyphonic note detection.

the other way to do it is just transcribe it by ear and write the stuff out in Finale or Sibelius. I do this kind of thing and can give you a quote if you want. I actually have Melodyne too and could do it that way.

Either way - email at andy (at) andygabrys (dot) com

Good luck.

If you're on a deadline, hire Andy! ;)

If you know the key you could filter out the midi notes that aren't a part of the key, if you don't know the key, you could use a free tool Sonic Visualizer and the free vamp plugins.
