The Kissing Tree ©2016 Robert George BMI
Who knows what we even argued about
You slammed the bedroom door and I stormed out
Then I took a long ride in our old Ford
And I found myself on River Road
Then I saw it by the riverside
Tall and bent and crowned in gold sunlight
Honey, that’s where you and I began
Almost as if heaven had a plan
And I know our love will never die
And the kissing tree reminds me why
I think it was our third or fourth date
We saw “The Notebook” late one Saturday
Then we took an evening drive and we talked
Pulled off near a poppy field and walked
Then we saw it by the riverside
Tall and bent and crowned with pale moonlight
Honey, that’s where you and I began
Almost as if heaven had a plan
And we knew our love would never die
Now the kissing tree reminds me why
When I drove back home to get you
You were waitin’ on the old porch swing
And you knew where we were goin’
Even though I didn’t say a thing
Then we saw it by the riverside
Tall and bent and crowned with pale moonlight
Honey, that’s where you and I began
Almost as if heaven had a plan
And we know our love will never die
And the kissing tree reminds us why
Yes, our love will never die
And the kissing tree
The kissing tree reminds us why…
