I was thumbin’ through an old book
On my uncle’s shelf
And it said the greatest wisdom
Would be found within myself
I was doubtful of my wisdom
Since I was just eighteen
And I figured that creation
Would reveal what life would mean
So I went backpacking in the southeast
Where the night winds are forever’s mouthpiece
And the streams are wine from heaven’s vineyard
And with time my life became much clearer
Mountains, bears and eagles were a mirror
And somehow they all reflected inward
O the land and sky and ocean
Fit together as if one
When I felt creation’s purpose
Then true wisdom had begun
So I reach for God’s horizon
With my feet upon the ground
Cos I found myself in nature
Not the other way around
When I went backpacking in the southeast
Where the night winds are forever’s mouthpiece
And the streams are wine from heaven’s vineyard
And with time my life became much clearer
Meadows, hawks and pine trees were a mirror
And somehow they all reflected inward
And I pray my heart will always heed
Wisdom that the earth and stars can give
I can’t always trust in what I read
But I trust in what I’ve lived
Cos I went backpacking in the southeast
Where the night winds are forever’s mouthpiece
And the streams are wine from heaven’s vineyard
And with time my life became much clearer
Mountains, bears and eagles were a mirror
And somehow they all reflected inward
Meadows, hawks and pine trees were a mirror
And somehow they all reflected inward
They all reflected inward…
