Thank you for this post. It rings true. The bitter pill of the return is the best medicine to improve the health of our songwriting and recording endeavors. Better to get a return from Taxi and some solid advice from a critique than to get an outright rejection from a publisher who won't listen to a second submission.

Question: I have indeed been considering learning guitar. Could I get away with learning only 3 chords -- tonic, dominant and subdominant?
Well, those three chords are the foundation of most blues and rock and roll. BUT, those three chords can be played many different ways, and then you have twelve keys to learn. I assume if you use a capo you can get by with a lot more just learning three, but I think you will find as you learn a few chords you will easily learn a few more, it will snowball, and then it will be awesome. :)

I confer with every point that you listed... It is common sense and good housekeeping.
Find myself ticking every box and thinking, I am already doing all of this.
This being my first year at taxi, there's a lot of preparation and revision.
But I haven't been playing music and writing songs for such a long time
to not see the Longview. Cheers, be great to meet up at the rally.

What an impressive post. Inspirational reading, thanks for putting this one up. I am a newbie and yes I have all the concerns that you are talking about and this post does make sense and gives a gentle kick to the person that is feeling a bit crap about a few returns. You need to write it submit it and move on.

Cheers

Impressive post Paulie! 8-) looks like you will make it. Just got to stick with it for the long haul.

After 2 years I've spent roughly $10,000 or more on my music equipment and submissions etc. But I see these first 2 years as the learning years. I dont need anymore equipment (although I want some) as I have too much already.

After 2 years I've decided on a different direction in the music biz which is taking me away from film/tv but man was it such a great learning experience. Still got a few tracks in libraries which will bring in some cash here and there.

Follow your dream and the dream will become a reality one day. Its just a matter of time.
