Have you formed an LLC

Post by fretman » Thu Jan 28, 2016 2:14 pm

... and why?

I'm new here and just starting out so I'd like to get as many ducks in a row as possible.

Thanks, fretman

Not yet.
My music income is so miniscule right now, it's the last thing on my mind. Might not be a bad idea if you're expecting bigger money or have complicated finances.

Good luck,

I have an LLC that I got before TAXI and I use it for any musical/business expense.

This is a good explanation. At the risk of stating the obvious, limited liability is a great reason to form an LLC.

I have formed an LLC. Not difficult. It's designed to be easy for individuals to set up.

Hey Guys!

I am new to the forum but wanted to weigh in on forming an LLC.

My name is Jennifer and I used to be in finance but now run a blog called Rideshareowl (see some of my work http://rideshareowl.com/taxes-for-lyft- ... r-drivers/.

As you can see from my sample post, I know finances pretty well. Forming an LLC is not expensive but can be a headache with paperwork so you have to ask yourself a few questions:

1) Why do you want to form an LLC?
2) Do you have to protect yourself legally from lawsuits, infringement, etc.?
3) Are you expecting to generate any income from this venture?

That will at least get you looking in the right direction, then you can decide to form a C. corp (if you want shareholders), LLC (if it's just you and a couple others), etc. and if it's worth the headache that all the paperwork will generate.

My 'gift-from-God' accountant told me an S corp is the way to go, but I gotta wait, 'til I have about a half-mil in assets; 'til then, 'sole proprietor' will do, so long as I don't put my wife on the payroll and we're still filing jointly. YMMV

Those of you who do have LLC's, do you sign your contracts as the LLC, then?

You sign the same way you sign your LLC's checks, name and signature over/under your title, though the title is probably redundant.
