Well, I saw her stranded on the roadside
As I strolled down to the fishin’ pond
And her Benz had plush velvet seats
Her license plate said “Vermont”

She said in this neck of the woods
Her cell reception wasn’t too good
I said it’s a short walk to my place
We can cool off and wait for Triple A

So we sat there in the breezy shade
Munchin’ Cheez-Its and sippin’ lemonade
And we chatted awhile
Then she cracked a smile
At the lovebirds on the gate
She said her rocking chairs back east
All have soft leather seats
And I told that cute sweet girl
With the new tweed skirt
This here’s a porch swing state

She said she was headed out to Berkley
To enjoy the college life
But her green eyes told me diff’rent
Soon as Triple A arrived

Well, they replaced a coupla parts
And they got her car to start
I could tell before her taillights disappeared
That a seed of life was planted here

Where we’d rested in the breezy shade
Munchin’ Cheez-Its and sippin’ lemonade
And we chatted awhile
Then she cracked a smile
At the lovebirds on the gate
She said her rocking chairs back east

I was walkin’ back home with my fishin’ gear one day
When a familiar voice asked if I was goin’ her way
We went back to my old farm
And walked up on the porch arm in arm

And we sat there in the breezy shade
Munchin’ Cheez-Its and sippin’ lemonade
And we chatted awhile
Then she cracked a smile
At the lovebirds on the gate
She said her rocking chairs back east

With the blue tweed skirt
Preferred a porch swing state
