My need for a sub may be unique due to the small dimensions of my room.

I'm willing to live with compromised phase relationships and crossover bumps because I have no choice really.

That's a great article! I've seen Fab speak several times at Sweetwater Gearfest (coming up in a few weeks!), he's always fascinating and entertaining.

But did you notice his room dimensions: 30 x 20 x 11 inches!?!  I've heard of tiny houses, but that's one tiny room!

Subs or not, we're all aiming for the same thing - mixes that translate well across various listening environments.

Yes very good article, would slightly disagree about using room eq software as it really helped me get my room to sound better but I did have Ethan Weiner on hand via a forum to help interpret what the software was telling me.

He even spotted a peak around 1khz and said it was probably the sound bouncing off the hard surface of my desk, sure enough when I covered it with spare left over Auralex tiles it disappeared.

My major low end issues were tamed by an ultra budget friendly solution, a limp mass barrier which was in fact an old rug which is large enough to hang across the whole room behind the monitors but away from the wall.

I can't tell you how many times I've struggled to get a good guitar sound, let alone mix, in room with 11" ceilings.*
