Nicely done! The mix is much tighter. I would maybe look to some space issues; which sounds are in front, which in back?, etc. It's plenty BQ, but some depth might give it more staying power. If you added a percussion breakdown, there'd be a wealth of easy edit points, jes' sayin'.NaeDae wrote:UPDATED MIX: https://soundcloud.com/mo-t-597740592/tokyo-updated
I tried to fix the mix up. Here's what I did:
-EQ'd the bass guitar to be less bass-y and made it louder
-Removed subbass from kick
-EQ'd drums with less low-end and made them louder
-Slightly adjusted the robo-synth-bass to be a little louder
Is the mix sounding good? Is it too flat now?

Thanks a ton. What do you mean by "adding a percussion breakdown"?mojobone wrote:Nicely done! The mix is much tighter. It's one of the basic building blocks of arranging, like a verse, a chorus, a bridge, a drop or a lift. To break down a mix, you just mute everything but the bones, usually bass and/or percussion; a breakbeat would be one example of a percussion breakdown, where you basically let the rhythm section solo for a few bars. Often, the bass comes back in and you build the mix up again from the bottom, or you could have everything come back in, at once. If you have a section that's kinda samey or where it begins to get repetitive, that spot's a good candidate.NaeDae wrote:Thanks a ton.
