Looking for Cinematic Hits

Post by TheElement » Tue Jun 21, 2016 11:12 pm

Hi guys, where can I find cinematic hits like in this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vi578l61V4

Would NI Rise & Hit have these hits? or some other software?

Thanks! 8-)

Not even sure which hits you're asking about, but what I can tell you is I've never hated a kick drum sound as much as that one. UGH! [cringes] To each their own, I reckon.

Looked like an extended ad for Calvin Klein.

What hits are you referring to? I didn't hear anything that couldn't be achieved with layering, eq, compression and reverb with synths and a standard drumkit.

Really big cinematic hits (ie. trailer and score) are made by layering things like taiko, gran casa, orch bass, surdo, woods, metals, synth elements, etc.

Thanks guys. The hits start right at the beginning. sound like drum hits.

I'm actually using this as one of my ref tracks. the track itself is an amazing production. Cash Cash are one of the top edm producers out there..

Mojo.. my kick will be different. :D

I think what you are hearing is the ambience. An example of that without using reverb, but using more of the room and overhead mics in the mix, are these Ocean Way drum audio samples with dry-medium-ambient.

Any of the popular drum programs allow overhead and room mic mixing.

Hey Gavin,
I recently purchased 8Dio's Epic Frame Drums :http://8dio.com/instrument/epic-frame-drum-ensemble/
Might be what you're looking for...?
They have a certain amount of room verb that can't be controlled all that well though...

you mean the tom hits / rolls at 0:11 or so?

I would be looking for an 80's kinda algorithmic reverb heavily gated.

Like the LX224 or similar.

You could likely find something out there that has them but it would be simpler and more flexible to just gate the verb on the toms.

if you have a transient designer or enveloper plugin like something built into Cubase or the SPL or NI or Metric Halo or Waves versions of the transient designer you can suck some of that room verb out of the drums by killing the tail on the transient designer. Sometimes its overly obvious but it can help.
