Recording and Mixing Ukulele and Mandolin

Post by davekershaw » Wed Jun 29, 2016 8:55 am

Does anyone have any advice on getting the best sound when recording and mixing both ukulele and mandolin?
Mandolin seems particularly hard to get a nice full, natural sound when using single notes for lead melody.

Thanks
Dave.

Do you want to post a snippet of what you have???
I could help if I can hear what register the notes are in!

Single Note Mandolin: https://soundcloud.com/robert-cass-mcen ... 03-27-2014
Single Ukelele: https://soundcloud.com/robert-cass-mcentee/ukey-swing
Plenty of reverb helps!

If you like either of these sounds and want snippets of either of these to drop into your project and match, let me know and I can Email them to you!

By reputation, this is among the best mics for mandoliin, and also a good all-rounder. http://www.frontendaudio.com/Roswell-Mi ... p/1836.htm It's also a bang per buck champ. Mandos can be difficult to capture; if a mic has hyped trebles, and many do, it's hard to capture a meaty mando sound. I don't know if it's available in the UK, as of yet.

Thanks Mo.
I've been trying both a Rodes N5 and Oktava MK 012a, both with Cardiod capsule.
