Can you know if your pitching to a library you're aleady in?

Post by Fullertime » Wed Jul 06, 2016 11:53 am

I have a question for any of you veterans that have lots of songs in various catalogs with various libraries already...

How do you know if you are pitching to a listing for a "Music Library" that you already have a relationship with and have songs in? Is there a way to know?? If not, at what point would you stop submitting stuff to listings?

How do you navigate this challenge?

Any insight is much appreciated!

Perhaps there is another post in this somewhere but i couldn't find it.

Thanks guys!

That's a great question, I'd like to know as well. I've seen veterans comment about that. Best way is probably to email the head screener and ask him if a particular listing is for the library you think it is. You can't ask "which library is this for?" but you could ask "is this listing for the <Acme> Music Library?"

I'd be curious about this even just for submissions/ forwards. If a similarly worded listing is posted - and I had a bunch of forwards the first time, it'd be nice to know if its the same company looking. That way I'd send new music rather than just trying to spread out the same music to see what sticks. Very good question indeed. I'm sure you could call or email head screener and just ask. Like hey I got some forwards for "listing A" last time. Is "listing B" the same company so I can send new material? Or is it a different company who hasn't heard any of my cues yet.....

When I see a listing that looks like a brief I've received from a Library, I call TAXI and ask them.

Basically you just ask them if the listing (insert listing number here) is for Library "X".

They won't tell you WHO the listing is for, but they WILL give you a yes or no answer if you ask them if the listing is for a particular library.

I've saved myself some $$ this way.

That's extremely helpful Russell... seems like a logical solution.

Thanks for chiming in man!
