how LO-FI is LO-FI?

Post by hummingbird » Sun Aug 21, 2016 5:03 pm

MOODY, Stripped-Down SINGER/SONGWRITER SONGS with Male and/or Female Vocals are needed by a really large media company for placements in several projects, including hit cable TV shows and online media. They pay an upfront fee of $250, see below for more details. They’re looking for acoustic guitar-based, Intimate sounding, fairly Moody and Melancholy, Down-to-Mid-Tempo Singer/Songwriter Songs with Male or Female Vocals in the general stylistic wheelhouse of songs like:

“Parachutes” Extended Version by Coldplay:

“Faust Arp” by Radiohead: (Music starts at :44)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApToBDuDwz8

Stripped-down, LO-FI, Singer/Songwriter Songs with a very introspective vibe and some minor and/or 7th chords might work well in this context. Notice that the recordings sound very lo-fi, so don’t give them anything that’s too clean or slick sounding. They didn’t specify any lyric themes, but based on the references, your lyrics should be pretty moody and introspective as well. An intimate vocal delivery (whether Male or Female) should do the trick, and you’d probably be wise to avoid any specific names, dates, places, times, and profanity. Finger picked acoustic guitar also seems like a good idea for this pitch!

Do NOT copy or rip off the referenced acts/artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, tone, and vibe. Lo-Fi home recordings will work just fine for this pitch! Your songs should be from two-three minutes long, and don’t worry if you go a few seconds short on long! Short, moody, and Lo-Fi… yeah baby!

This new, Exclusive, In-House Library will pay an initial buyout fee of $250 for 100% of the Publisher’s Share and Master rights. On top of the per track fee, you will also get 100% of the Writer’s share of the publishing and make applicable performance income. This Library offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so the music you submit for this pitch CANNOT be signed with any other publishers or catalogs Please submit 1-3 Songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Sunday, August 28th, 2016. TAXI #U160828SS

Besides the refs which seem pretty clear - I would likely check out the music by Kimya Dawson from "Juno".

Lo-GI doesn't really sound like junk. It's more a particular sound. No verb or delay. Little compression. Finger squeaks on the acoustic guitars. Little eq.

My opinion.

I wouldn't get any lower than that,lol!

I doubt they meant 8-bit.

Produced in a bedroom versus produced in a studio.

Not a major production. No producer listed in the credits.

If it happens to be too clean, maybe add a quiet bed spring squeak or cough?? :?
