Anyone using Final Mix Mic Tone?
Has anyone downloaded and used Final Mix's plugin Mic Tone? If so, any thoughts on it? Thanks in advance!

Re: Anyone using Final Mix Mic Tone?
Lamar I haven't, but what are your expectations?
There are and have been various, modelers and cloners, with probably varying degrees of success. I have speakerphone that has "23 microphone impulse responses". If it was a plugin all by itself, I wouldn't buy it. There are even eq matching programs, that you could include.
There are more sophisticated type programs that tailor eq curves using specific mics, But then again, it's not to say that none has ever applied any eq to say a U87 or a C12. And there are different characteristics of various eq's, parametric, linear phase...
It's probably the same problems that are encountered when say, trying to eq a violin into a cello??
The real magic of a microphone is how you hear yourself in the here and now, in the moment. And there are usually preamps, eq, and compressors in the chain as well.

No, but there's this: http://slatedigital.com/virtual-microphone-system/ and also this: http://media.wix.com/ugd/4d56f1_8868b6c ... 848d37.pdf
Convolution-based audio products are getting better with every iteration; Line6's new Helix floor processor is insanely good, and IMO a bargain, even at $1499. Whether any of the above applies to your process and workflow is an open question; I have modelers and I have hardware and for me, most of the time, the hardware wins on sonics and feel, but the ability to quickly dial up sounds in the studio that are outstanding and conveniently repeatable, sometimes outweighs pure sonics, and particularly when you need to work quickly.

Len:
My expectations are fairly modest. I'm looking at it being an enhancement to a track. I am not expecting the results to be perfect, just use-able. All in all, I have been very pleased with everything that I have bought from Final Mix.

Thanks for the links. Will check them out!
