Input/Opinion on Native Instruments Komplete Elements Soft Synth Bundle/Sound Library

Post by Merryband1 » Fri Feb 24, 2017 9:51 pm

Has anyone used this VST program? IS it a VST program? I found Native Instruments Komplete Elements Soft Synth Bundle/Sound Library on Amazon, and the price looks good, but if it sounds artificial, I might better save up for a really good strings program. Ideas? Opinions?

Thanks!
Merry

It's a decent selection of sounds for the price, but it wouldn't be my first stop for realistic strings. It's meant to be an introduction to Native Instruments' products, and will likely whet your appetite for more, which is when you learn that some of the best stuff only runs in the full version of their Kontakt software sampler, which is not included. Still, there are quite a few NI and third party products that will run on the free 'player' versions, but customization/editing can be limited. You'll have wider choices and greater flexibility if you just save up for the full version of Kontakt, but Elements is a cheap way to get your feet wet.

One clue is that you have 3 GB and 1,000 instruments for $49 in the first link.

In the second link, for $99, you get in Session Strings, 2.4 GB and 12 articulations of only "pop" session strings. Session Strings Pro has 48 GB and 29 articulations for $299.

First you should determine what purpose you wish for the strings. I am going to assume more in the pop or "record session" strings, and therefore something like Sessions Strings or Session Strings Pro, and less symphonic or cinematic strings. By knowing more precisely what you want, you can eliminate a lot of unnecessary expense and better suitors. Horses for courses. I mean, do you really want "Action Strings", "The epic, orchestral sound of blockbuster movies", for a folk song or adult contemporary @ $299??

Thanks, Mojo and Len. That's what I figured. I really want (eventually) full orchestra capabilities, and this Elements would probably just frustrate me. There are probably better ways to learn, too. For now, I'm going to concentrate on easier listings for submissions, but still compose Classical pieces, which I can record properly with a good VST sound library later. No music ever goes to waste, whether we can sell it or not. I've recycled bits and pieces of songs for years. You just never know when a particular snatch of melody will fit something else even better than its original. :)

Meanwhile, I spent the money on an upgrade for my DAW, which will serve me much better for now, and improve my live recording.

Thanks bunches! See you tonight, if there's a TAXI-TV.
