Ideas for TAXI TV Topics

Post by admin » Mon Mar 06, 2017 11:51 pm

Post them here ladies and gents. If you can give us topics that can fill a full show, as opposed to single question stuff like, "Do I need to join a PRO when I get my first song published?"

We look forward to hearing your ideas!

thanks,
Michael

Off the cuff story ideas (themes could vary):

Driver profiles - more screeners - they all have unique experiences and perspectives, which is both interesting and valuable

Passenger profiles - more members - a look into home or project studios, their focus and how they go about music production/ writing

Supervisor profiles - more supervisors - would love to learn more about different angles on music supervision in different areas

Studio profiles - more studios - would love to see more from elite studios, and eg learn how to incorporate outboard equipment into productions/ recording tips ect

LA Tours - more insight from the music industry in LA/ CA - would love to see some inspiring places where music is being made/sold/used/taught - let Robin Frederick show us Disney Studios :-) (Same goes for other areas NY, Nashville ect., whenever possible - maybe send a camera home with screeners or others).

Industry events - from a production music angle - where is it going? what can we learn? - could be NAMM with Rob Chiarelli or Ronan, PMA’s Production Music Conference with a music supervisor, The Production Music Awards with a panel of screeners, The Grammys with a label rep, ASCAP Expo ect. Commented analysis of trends and things.

---

As is, Taxi TV is more like a podcast, and not so much TV (with images, video, show and tell), so overall more visuals would be great. When you are talking about mixing, do a screencast to show us. When you are talking about recording, shoot an example. When you are featuring profiles, show where they live, work ect. One visual = 1000 words. I understand it will require a lot more resources, though, but would love that next step. It would really utilize Taxi as TV.

I don't think there's ever been a Sound Editor on Taxi Tv. That would be a very useful and informative perspective. There are always questions on the forum about how loud to master a piece, yada yada, but knowing what a sound editor can and can't do, what makes their job easier when they edit, etc., would be terrific!

Hey, Stuart;
Pardon me for being a butt-insky - BUT - I think that was done not too long ago; you might wanna search the archives for 2016 (or maybe admin can help).
I agree, that's a very important item - and Michael did do a good program specifically about that; with a focus particularly for instrumental cues that describe the 'mood' of the piece, for easy recognition.
Hope that helps.
Cheers.

I would love to see a mock spotting session with a real music director or supe and three or four different scenes or commercials. Even cooler f they used Taxi members' music.

I think I'd have to quit working at TAXI to do many of those! And many would be hard to do as live shows, and that's half the beauty of TAXI TV is the community in the live chat. All solid ideas, but I'd need a production staff and a real studio to pull them off. And I DO have a day job ;-)

As for showing outboard and faders, etc., there are already plenty of places to see that on Youtube, so I'd rather stick to stuff that other people don't cover as much, or at all. I hope that info like success strategies, how to title cues, how to make better cues, forwards and return ear training, etc. is more in our wheelhouse and within our capabilities: Webcam, laptop, knowledge.

Anything that requires a crew and editing just isn't possible with my work schedule. I'd have to take days off to go shoot those things, then spend a day or more editing each one. I guess you could think of TAXI TV as a podcast, but an interactive one, and that's what makes it special... the audience feedback, questions, comments, etc. At least IMHO.

best,
Michael

Point well recieved, Michael. DON'T EVER QUIT TAXI!!!!!! :D
Im perfectly happy with Taxi TV as is, its like a get-everything-for-nothing deal!

If Im to extract some principles from my post, set aside the idea examples, I guess it could be:

- More stories from passengers (members), drivers (staff), fuel stations (studios, industry events) and destinations (editors, supervisors, publishers, a&r). If you, or some in your staff is already there, a live reportage with an iPhone would be perfectly cool. Of course still working from the founding idea of Taxi TV - that it should empower the members in a way that helps them perform better in the pre-production, production or post-production of music for the listings/ Taxi clients.

- Some way to utilize the TV medium more in the show, without spending more resources. It may not be top of the list, because the content can hold its own as is, but it would make sense when using TV as a tool. I realize talk shows are hugely popular, though, but picture is more effective as a tool when showing something that moves

- Everyday insights, as everyone and your grandmother has a phone with video capabilities, it is possible to capture snippets of daily practices effortlessly (like music supervision, incoporating music while editing a film, setting up a tv/film recording session, spotting session ect.) that may be relevant in terms of empowering Taxi members with more insight in what people are doing, why and what their thoughts are while doing it. True, some editing may be involved.. or just having a second computer set up with the files, switch the main jack for the 5min feature, and then switch back. The time spent of delegating and setting up the second computer might be saved in preparation time for the show.

Just ideas - totally keep or sweep

Even if none are considered, a big THANK YOU for doing Taxi TV!
