An example of objective truth is that if I head out my house and go south on I25 I will end up in Mexico. That is absolute and provable and the same for anyone. An example of subjective truth is Dead Can Dance is the best band in the world. To me they are to you...maybe not......So the question is this.......is the meaning of life an objective or subjective truth? And how do you prove whether it is objective or subjective without getting into a circular argumentDerek

I don't mind folks getting upset, as long as they get back to talking kindly to each other...and that seems to be what we do each time here. Good stuff.When it comes to determining the meaning of Christ's message, or any other religious leader's message, you've got to look at what they said. I don't mind folks posting their views. I respect 'em even if not agreeing with 'em. Such a discussion is what the thread was started for. It's on-topic, and from it we learn to challenge why we believe something, and whether it's based on some evidence or just our own preferences.Peace to you guys (and gals)...and Steve, keep the "Sue and Steve Show" vids coming.Jonathan

Fighting?Times like this bring me back to my childhood. My parents would be having a huge, loud disagreement... If I asked Mom why her and Dad were fighting, she would say "We're not fighting, we're discussing"...For some reason, I never got an answer to my follow-up question:"But Mom, then why are dishes flying across the room at Dad?"... It's nice when we can agree and disagree and still live in peace, but there are somethings that will always cause a stir and this is one of them. Things are clearly set out for us to see all around and we choose to ignore them. If we say that what's right for me or truth for me isn't the same for you this is the root of lawlessness. Every one will do what's right in there eyes (we see it everyday in the news etc). Hence the reason I said earlier that purpose is only found in the mind of the inventor/creator of a thing it is not found in the thing itself. Thus the purpose of life will lead all of us into who thinks this is right and who feel this is wrong and no one settles or zones in on the root issue.If it was to make money then why are there so many unhappy people that are rich and unhappy people try the best to get rich. If it was to make music then we'd all feel content and fulfilled and that's not the case even though we may feel a sense of fulfillment after completing a song but it's not like that feeling take you through everyday good times or not. If it were to be nice to everyone and to make people laugh then why are there still so many unhappy people doing those things using substances to make them feel happy for a while some even kill themselves. I'll put it to us that when our purpose if truly found we are fulfilled and contented regardless of what we do in our daily lives and regardless of what happens around us. Our bodies are perfect examples of this. Our lungs have a purpose to supply the rest of the body with oxygen through breathing, it is not the heart (no jealousy there) the hearts purpose is to pump that oxygen rich blood to the other organs. and so on and so on. Whether we in the tropics the Arctic or where ever you cut us open and it's the same we know this because it was designed that way for a reason. I put it to (and whether we like it or not disagree or not the truth is the truth an our feelings can change that fact) us that there is a creator that has a purpose for each and everyone of us and he has shown his love to us everyday even if we don't acknowledge it. The highest purpose was demonstrate then that even though no guilt or wrong was found in his character he suffered hate and ridicule and lies and death for all human kind In Him Is Found Purpose...
