Songs Submitted Lowered In Volume?
I noticed my song 'Beyond The River' which I submitted for a listing is approximately 2dB RMS lower than the .mp3 that I submitted. Both my .wav and .mp3 files peak out at 7dB RMS. But the submitted .mp3 accessed on my Taxi member page peaks out at 9dB RMS. I'm very careful about overs as I mix, so I know that was not a problem.
Is this normal?

I had never really noticed...What did you do to test this...re-download the MP3 and measure it ?waveheavy wrote:I noticed my song 'Beyond The River' which I submitted for a listing is approximately 2dB RMS lower than the .mp3 that I submitted. Remember you are using the flash player to stream the audio. I don't have flash on this computer, but if I remember correctly, you can right click on a pc and adjust the settings while it plays. When I go to your taxi page, I don't see any downloads enabled, so I'm assuming you didn't download the file, which should be the same one you uploaded I presume. Because I don't have flash I can't listen, it just says "get flash" in the player. The flash versions I can get for debian linux only work sometimes for a few things, but none have worked for taxi page. Flash seems to be losing support in a lot of systems and browsers.

All I did was play my original .mp3 file in Windows Media Player (with volume all the way up) while watching my RME's card digital meter. Then I went to my Taxi page and played the same .mp3 file that I had uploaded while watching the same meter.
I'm using my RME audio card's Digicheck meter which gives an accurate measure of the audio playback on my system. I hadn't thought about the Flash player. I looked in my Controls panel at the Flash Player and there's no tab to check or set the volume, so it evidently is done peer-to-peer.

Re: Songs Submitted Lowered In Volume?
I just happened to think, the volume is probably the same volume control on the Taxi website flash player. I don't have it now cause I don't have flash player, though I do remember before having a volume control on the Taxi site. Years ago I was on a karaoke site that used flash player and you could just right click in the window and adjust volume and other settings. And also you will need to check your RME audio card settings that they are wide open or full volume, because it probably does the check after those settings. You have to be careful, because if you open up everything, you will probably blow your ears out. I keep the "alsa mixer" on this online computer about halfway, though I usually keep it open so I can adjust the volume higher or lower. But I also have a headphone volume control that I keep a little less than half. It's really up to how everyone has their computer set up as far as streaming audio. The only way to check rms of a file is to check the file, and you need to download the file to do that. Most people adjust their settings to the medium of what's out there. So when people comment that the mix is too low or too loud, it's actually in comparison to the volume of most streaming media on the internet as a whole.

I wouldn't worry about it - there's no way of knowing if the flash player is calibrated to the same level as your own playback software..mine sounds 3 or 4 db quieter when I play the same track from my media player Vs Taxi 's streaming version.waveheavy wrote:All I did was play my original .mp3 file in Windows Media Player (with volume all the way up) while watching my RME's card digital meter.
