Hey Les,

Cool start for the idea, and I agree with everybody else's assessments across the board.

Even when the drums are sticking to a simple back beat I feel like the reverb on the snare is putting it in the kitchen while the rest of the drums are here with me in the studio :)

Genre-wise I'm not sure what is normal for drums, but to my ear you could stick to the simple back beat for the entire song because there's so much else going on to give it groove the drums should be more of an anchor, along the lines of Billie Jean (maybe not stylistically what you're going for, but the statement could be applied to a million songs, this just jumped into my head first. Super simple drum pattern = no distractions).

Hope this helps!

-Bill

Hi Great that you got so many helpful comments. I don't have anything else to add. Loved the guitar and I found the entire track kind of mesmerizing in a relaxing sorta way, if that makes any sense. Nice work man

Sincerely

Paul

Wow, thanks for the help on this one guys, I can't get over what a great resource p2p can be and how generous people are with their time and consideration.

Hi again Les. Definitely some great constructive comments here and a track worth developing. Just wanted to say, I love that (presumably a) Strat sound.
Thanks Steve, it is a Strat through a deluxe reverb clone. Ive always been a strat guy. ;)

Hey Les,

Solid song structure. As others have said, change the drums. When compared to the guitar they aren't in the same ballpark! Also, the guitar in the right channel (or is that synth), needs to be a tighter sound in my opinion as it's driving my attention from the rest of the song. The part is good, just change the voicing if possible. I'd also dirty up the bass a bit - send it to some distortion.
Hey John :!:  where ya been, good to hear from you.

Thanks for the ears and I hear what your'e saying. It is guitar heavily chorussed in the right channel and I did some editing but haven't posted yet where I moved the timing round a bit cause Yeah it was distracting. I might darken it up a bit too.
The bass needs some grit too. Hear ya on the drums, will fix.
Thanks mate.

The organ is competing too much with the guitar, they're both too close in the same register. Panning the organ far to one side might fix it, don't know.

I think the snare might be a little too bright for Motown. I'd compare more and try several different snare samples.
Thanks Wave, will keep in mind when remixing.

Hey Bill, seems like the snare is 'out to lunch' I'll think about the total back beat. I like your comment about the drums being out of the way. I'm really p'd off now that I spent most of my life in bands playing all the 'fiddly bits' on guitar and not paying attention to to timing and basic music theory.

Thanks Paul, appreciate your ears and good words. Glad you enjoyed. :)
Will be away from the studio for a few weeks so I can't make the changes till then.

Thanks for the great constructive help everyone, you all rock :D

I made some changes based on recommendations. Will need to reign in the cymbals among other things but will do so when I get back in a few weeks.

Same link.

Thanks all for the help on this one. :D

Hey Lester,

I tried to listen but the track was removed apparently.. Heard some of your other stuff, sounds great. I like your style of playing.

Mike

Thanks Mike, made it public. Don't know why it wouldn't work before.

Hi Lester. Nice groove. Nice lines.
I don't know if it's my cruddy speakers but it sounds like you have gone too heavy sidechaining the compressor from the kick. Each time the kick hits, it pulls everything else way down. The bass sounds really squashed as well. Is anyone else hearing that?

Put a new one up Mike. I had both the kick and the bass way too big. Nothing side chained, just too much energy from both. Edit: actually it was triggering compression on the whole mix.

Thanks for pointing that out. The mix could still be unbalanced after all that. If anything else jumps out at you let me know.

Thanks for taking the time.
