Got a forward! but… what now?

Post by gvksounds » Tue Sep 26, 2017 11:39 am

Hi everyone!

Let me ask you guys this question that’s been running through our mind for a while now:
We sent in a song for a listing some months ago and a short time after that, we got the message that it was a forward, message saying “Congrats, the song has been forwarded to the music supervisor”.
Up to now we haven’t got any news about that forward though. Does it mean that eventually the song hasn’t been taken into consideration by that music supervisor? How long have you guys normally waited till you got a reply after each forward? Have you been contacted by anyone after each time you got the congrats message for it?

Thanx guys!

A forward doesn't mean it got 'placement', i.e., used. Nor are we told who the forward was to. So Taxi depends upon a trust relationship; trust that their professional connection to a library or music supervisor is real, and not just an easy way to generate funds. I've only been a member this year and have one forward, so at this point I'm paying more attention to critques by the screeners, and the styles and quality of tunes by others that got forwarded.

This is one of the most popular questions from new members. First of all, CONGRATS on the forward! That means you are creating music worthy of placement. :)

The forward means that your music has been sent to the librarian or supervisor for review, along with any other Taxi member tracks that were forwarded for the same listing. There could be 25 forwards, there could be five. (you can find out the specifics at the Taxi forwards blog here: http://blog.taxi.com/forward/ (try searching for the listing number).

What happens next? The customer receives the files and hopefully listens to them, but each scenario is unique. Here are some possibilities off the top of my head:
  • If it was a fast deadline the library/super may have found something in their current catalog to meet their customer's deadline before even receiving the Taxi forwards.
  • The project may have stalled.
  • The library/super could have received something that worked from one of their already signed writers.
  • The project may have died.
  • The project may have been a competitive situation and ended up going to another media company.
  • Maybe none of the forwards met what the customer truly wanted
  • The producers changed their requirements and the listing requirements are no longer what they want. (they changed there mind)
  • They liked the music, but not for this particular project, so they saved it for future use.
I'm sure there are many other scenarios. Hopefully the last one is what has happened. There are members here that heard literally years after a forward from the library. What I've seen is that most often libraries content you within a couple of weeks after a forward. But nothing is etched in stone.

So, congrats again on the forward! Now consider that track having left the nest and get to work on more. :)

Our average has been some form of contact every 20 - 30 forwards..others composers mileage may vary...so just keep making more stuff than can get you a forward

And if you get another Listing that is a good fit for the same song, send it again and hope for another forward.

Hope that helps

Congratulations on your forward! That is exciting! I have had forwards in which I haven't heard back from (yet )(3-6 months) and some have heard 3 months later when wanted. I just do the mantra..write submit forget repeat!

You may be pleasantly surprised with an email one day!

Best of luck!
