Drums a hair less "on the grid", please. ?

I always love when I get a small critique on a yes/no pitch. This one, wasn't sure of meaning.

Great movement, Steve, but the vibe leans aggressive over fun and upbeat. Drums feel like they could be a hair less "on the grid" sounding to convey a slightly more organic aesthetic. I enjoyed listening all the same.

I didn't do my usual more detailed drum editing due to time limit, so maybe that's it. I played the bass part and then "logic Drummer" followed it to give a drum feel base.

Your post reminds me of a conversation I had with Richard Dance (aka Crawdaddy) at the rally, a few months ago - about a class he taught at the 2016 rally.
I hope this isn't too far off of the point - the subject was about setting a groove, and where the back-beat falls... i.e. 'ahead of the beat' v. 'behind the beat'.
This can apply to other instrumentation besides the drums.
If you are dealing with quantized mechanical drums, I'm not sure how you move or adjust the placement of the beat to be either ahead - aggressive;
or behind - laid back in the pocket. Forgive me if I'm stating something that you already know.

There have been instances where moving a completed drum track (even a mandolin solo track once) a few milliseconds back or ahead greatly affected the 'pocket' feel of a song.

All that - if your vibe is for a hard-driving punk piece, being ahead of, or on-top of the beat seems appropriate. But if the call is for a more laid-back, "fun" song
(did you see what I did there? )... backing off of the grid might be what their comment is about.

Are you able to make that adjustment... experiment and post it up as an comparative mix/listen?

Yeah well, I think the issue mainly is that the drums doesnt respond to the dynamics in the gtrs, as its programmed pretty well. You could try some parallel compression, to make them follow, and maybe pull them slightly back in the mix, so the repitiveness doesnt stand out as much.
