Feedback please

Post by deflint » Sat Jan 13, 2018 9:13 am

I’d appreciate feedback for this cue written for one of Michelle Lockey’s Music Licensing Bootcamp class assignments.
The mood does shift in an attempt to capture the key emotions described in the scene.
“The music needs to convey the feeling of sadness, loss, but with some anger & determination.
Thanks in advance!

I think you accomplished your aim. The intro sounds minor and sad, but when the organ and drums come in in starts to sound hopeful and striving. Maybe the only emotion I don't hear directly is anger- more like determination to me. I could see the character in a movie practicing something in an attempt to win back the girl, or fight the bully. So maybe that's pretty close to anger?

Good stuff,

Vince

Nice. Musically, there some good things happening.
I'm not sure what the other components of the project are, but it sounds very stiff and midi sounding. There are some good posts and taxi T.V clips on how to get midi sounding more live.

Again, I like the composition. Nice job.

Really nice mix! The first thing that jumped out at me was at 0:41 when the drums come in, either one track is rushing, or you need to (in your sequence) match the snare hit to the rest of the track. It doesn't sound like a "groove."... But as it goes on, it locks in rhythmically well. Nice job!

I really appreciate all your comments.
I am not a keyboard player so the keyboard parts aren't great and add to the stiffness.
I'll ask my friend, who actually is a keyboard player, to redo these parts.
This one was a challenge with very diverse moods being called for.
Thanks again!
