Hi I'm new here :D
Hi guys,I looked into joining taxi lately - I haven't actually joined it yet, as I'm about to go travelling for the year, so I won't be able to spend much time at it, but I thought I'd ask you guys for some advice. I was wondering if you guys thought that my tracks were good enough that they would be used?Heres some of my tracks: Simplicity Constant Motion Desire Harmony Serene The Horror Begins I'd appreciate any feedback you guys could give on my music, and whether you think its good enough for TAXI or not. Anyway, a little bit about me. My name is Emmett and I'm from Ireland. I did my BA Music 2 years ago in Ireland, and I've been composing ever since.I run a free composer interview site over at www.filmandgamecomposers.com and you can see my own personal site at www.soundtrack.ie - I'm looking to get into the film/tv/game music industry, and TAXI looks like a great way to get into that. If you guys think my music is good enough, I think I'll join TAXI and see how it goes Emmett

Simplicity This link didn't work for me. But I found it here: http://soundtrack.ie/downloads.htmlI like the song but after a while I was hoping the left hand had more expressive dynamics and maybe looser timing. A very powerful, simple statement! Constant Motion This link didn't work for me. But I found it here: http://soundtrack.ie/downloads.htmlNice one! Lots of driving tension in this well-done piece. The structure is so simple that it is easier to appreciate it as a background than as a stand-alone song. That could be a good thing! You really grabbed me when you started your heavy hitting notes!! Thanks for that. Desire This link didn't work for me. Harmony Now here's something funny: the title led me to expect this would be a soft song. You made me jump, buddy! I'm unsure about the market potential for this one. Trust me - I'm no expert. My ears are telling me that the competition in this genre may prevail over you. Congratulations on taking your keyboard chops to a new level. Maybe more techno elements would have lifted this one over the top for me. Serene You caught and held my attention with the first two notes. I liked the modern elements as they entered in. The chords at 1:53 really warmed me up. The strings are emotional and I like how the come and go. Sometimes they are used in ways that seem unnatural but I think it adds to the dreaminess of the song. Nice subtle energy lift-up starting at 2:45. I like it. The Horror Begins This link didn't work for me. I listened to the other songs on your page. You have a wonderful talent for sweet, melancholy songs. My only suggestion would be that the start and end of some of your MIDI strings notes need special tweaks to make them sound more natural.Welcome to the forum Emmett! I feel you will enjoy and benefit from being a Taxi member. It'll be a great new way for you to compete in the business. Good Luck,Allen

Re: Hi I'm new here :D
Emmett,Welcome to the forum! I gave a listen to several pieces and I think your music is definitely good enough to get some forwards through Taxi. I can definitely hear your material being used as background for a fairly wide variety of film/tv segments. Of course, whether or not they get used will be up to whoever receives them once they get forwarded on from Taxi. Most of your material sounds new age'ish to me and I enjoyed listening to them. I think Allen gave you some great comments so I won't expand too much on what he had too say. The one thing that struck me about all of the tracks that you might want to think about is that the high end (eq/mix) seemed to be a little too hot at times and the strings did have a bit of a synthy quality to them. But sometimes synthy works depending on what someone is looking for. I've learned that one of the major factors to success through Taxi is getting to the point where you are able to provide exactly what the listing is asking for. It took me about 2 years before I started to get to that point and I still struggle with it at times. Early on it is easy to wind up submitting songs that don't really match what the listing is asking for. Many new members fall into this and it can be extremely frustrating. Spending time of the forum and listening to what other people are working on and specifically those pieces that get forwarded for specific listings can be a big help. I hope this helps. Once again, welcome and best of luck.Kurt

Hi guys,Thanks so much for the feedback. I have to say - all the links I have posted here are actually all for old music - music I made in Reason when I started off.I have some tracks that are a bit better sounding now - I'd really love to hear what you guys think about them - I appreciate the time it takes to listen to them Here are the tracks which are more newer: Asteroids The Horror Begins Something new I'm working on A new track I've finished All of the links should work this time I agree with all the comments you guys made - the tracks are more "background" than anything else. I like minimal orchestral music, so I like repetitive music - I'm still trying to find my voice though. I'm trying to do more orchestral stuff right now.A little about myself aswell - I run a free website where I interview composers out there in order to open up the myseterious world of film scoring:www.filmandgamecomposers.com I have a few questions aswell - I had a quick read over the whole process, but I was wondering - how much money can you make from a "forward" and what exactly is a forward? I know its not all about the money, but I'm just curious where you make the money on taxi - is it when you get entered into a library? Thanks Emmett

You are in control as to what opportunities you want your music screened for. The money thing comes up only if the client contacts you and offers you a deal. That's the simplest explanation. Allen

Your music is very good and I believe will be very useful. The part where many get hung up is "targeting the listings"... doing a good job of matching music to the listings, giving the listing companies what they're looking for. Or... even harder, doing a good job of interpreting (or sometimes guessing) what the listing company is looking for. They write the listings, Taxi does their best to pull out clarifying information but sometimes the listings are hard to target. Welcome to the real world. The forum is a great place to get and stay "centered". You'll see even-keeled individuals who roll with the punches and continue to "gently push themselves forward" (credit: Traveling Ed). Obviously that's the best way to go and it isn't always easy to maintain that frame of mind. From time to time you'll also see individuals who get completely bent out of shape because one song was returned. Some eventually become centered... some don't. Taxi introduced me to opportunities I normally wouldn't have access to. Also (and most important), the critiques have helped me improve my music and the overall usefulness of my music. And the friendships I've made here... they're for a lifetime. Glad you're here. Dave
