Apropriate for Pop listing?
Hey guys and girls
got a quirky pop song that I actually made for another listing but I was wondering if, in your opinion, it would fit this one?
This is the listing:
"LIGHT, FUN POP SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed for an (up-to) $1,000, Non-Exclusive, Direct-to-Ad-Agency placement in a Digital/Online Commercial for a Clothing Brand. They want Mid-Tempo Songs that are in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the following references that we got from the Ad-Agency:
“Best Friend” by Sofi Tukker ft. NERVO, The Knocks & Alisa Ueno: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Vx7MTU-UVE
“Be Mine” by Ofenbach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNWOC_Pvo4w
NOTE: You’d be wise to submit material that matches the tempo of the reference tracks. The Ad-Agency is currently loving “Best Friend” and “Be Mine,” but they’re not looking for knockoffs or sound-alikes. Submit music that’s inspired by the tempo and fun “vibe” of referenced examples but doesn’t even attempt to emulate them in other ways. It’s all about the overall spirit, vibe, and the rhythmic “uplift factor,” not the melody and lyric.
Give them well-crafted, modern Pop songs with a cool summer vibe that have a general feel and similar style to the references above. Our educated guess is that the RHYTHMIC aspect of the guitar parts that the two references have in common must be an imperative clue. Having a rhythmically engaging beat, with unique percussive elements and a funky rhythm guitar part could make your song most appealing to this Ad-Agency! Be sure your vocals are well performed, with a confident Pop-style delivery.
Quoting the Ad-Agency: “Please NO EDM and/or electro, your song shouldn't have any drops or builds. We’re going for something light and fun.”
They didn’t specify any lyric themes, however, lyrics that avoid references to specific names, dates, times, brands, and profanity are generally recommended, as they’re easier to use. Do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Broadcast Quality is needed.
The estimated license fee for this use is up to $1,000, depending on the ultimate placement. This request is for digital/online ads, hence the relatively low creative fee. It’s not uncommon that online ads that do well end up migrating to broadcast or cable TV, with additional fees paid for the music when that happens!
This is a Non-Exclusive, Direct-to-Agency placement, so you’ll keep 100% ownership of your Copyright and Master Recording, plus you’ll also get 100% of the Master License Fee and any applicable performance royalties. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to pitch for this opportunity. Please submit as many songs as you’d like, online or per CD. All Submissions will be judged on their “usability factor” by the Screener, who has been handpicked by the Music Supervisor, and who will be judging based on his “gut” - Short Critiques only. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59PM (PDT), on Wednesday, July 18th, 2018. TAXI #Y180718LF"

Style-wise I think you're there, but the production would need some work.
I love the width and the brass. The guitars work well.
But everything needs compression and thickening, it doesn't really 'pop' like the reference tracks. If you listen to them everything is in your face, and you don't get that with your track.
I think this is still worth working on though.
Cheers,
Steve

Cool track, David!
Definitely the right vibe I'd say. My only reservation is that the opening vocal is a lttle low and heavy and they mighht be looking for something brighter. That type of voice works in the first reference track because it comes as a contrast to the girl's voice that sets the mood initially. Maybe start with a higher pitched or lighter bit of vocal?
Best of luck

can you use another p2p application - or is there a reason you have to use winmx, like resuming partial files?

Hey Oatleybake
thanks for the feedback, yes I see where you re coming from. I figure if they love the track and that s the only thing that bothers them they can contact me and ask me to change that:-) I still have the original tracks of those vocals without down pitching and I can easily back off on the NI Mouth effect. Or I could use a different verse there, the possibilties are almost endless.... which always ends up being my dilemma... to choose...
I m also weary of being too close in structure to the references, but it s a fine line right? TOo close and then one step away and you re too far off
Anyway, appreciate your input.
Creatively yours

Re: Apropriate for Pop listing?
Cool track and it sounds in the same style as the "Best Friend" tune. I do agree with other reviewers that it needs work on the production to equal the targets. To me, the transition from the guitar to the horn part doesn't sound smooth. It's a cool idea, just needs to be glued together somehow. Maybe it is something that could be fixed by compression as someone above suggested.
