LamarPecorino wrote:Thanks for sharing this song, Peter. It's one of the best Country songs that I've heard in awhile. I've been sharing it with old band-mates of mine. None of them had heard it. You've made a bunch of old Country musicians very happy. :D :D
Glad you like it and agree...Lamar - I keep listening to it.
Likewise, another 'stumble find' - because I don't listen to radio - is the new batch of songs on the Tim McGraw-Faith Hill duet album:
I was blown away at the caliber of the writing and production... but it sounds more like Adult Contemporary than Old-School Country.

Here's a sample - the album is "The Rest Of Our Life"

I reckon this one's gonna win them a bunch of recognition & awards.

Apologies, but the contemporary country that I enjoy most sounds pretty near exactly like the Southern Rock I could barely play in my youth; it would appear that some genres require players, and players change slowly by generation. Put another way, The Allmans and Skynerd gave birth to Blackberry Smoke and Brothers Osborne.

I hear ya, Mojo. I 'made the mistake' of tuning into some of the CMT 'ladies' awards last night. From some of the video clips, Country has spread its marketing arms far and wide, and have embraced lots of other genre genes - rap, pop, southern rock, adult contemporary - there don't seem to be any limits.
EXCEPT - during the bits I saw, not one peep about Faith Hill. That spoke volumes to me.

With the exception of a few die-hards, Old-School Country is still on life-support. I don't really bother listening to that other stuff.

To my ears it has that nashville cookie cutter studio sound. I think there’s a thousand songs just like it. New face, same sound to me. Not that its bad, theres a core audience for this, and they will probably be satisfied. It is a very familiar sound. It is a label playing it safe type of release, providing a vehicle for a new artist, imho.

For me, I'm hoping it's a return to some more old school sounds. All country doesn't have to sound like that but it's my favorite and most of what I write as well. Country music always seems to shift back to its roots time and again. Fiddle and pedal steel sure do put a smile on my face. :D

Hey Rahill, Are you going to the Rally this year? I'd like to meet up and dish about some of your favorite country songs and artists.

Jon Pardi's album is a mix between the old and new styles in my opinion. Take a listen if you get time. He is having some good success so maybe there's hope for some more
"old School country music"!

Yes - I plan to be there Friday-Sunday. And, since I'm a 2-hour drive away, I'll bring a guitar & a mandolin just in case some jams bust out.
AND - if CD Baby delivers them ON TIME - copies of my new 10-song Country/Gospel CD - My King's Country...
with some great Nashville players... (a few from Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, and a few locals) lots of fiddle, pedal steel, and B3!! :?

Schweet!, I'm bringing the old road warrior guitar for just such an occasion as well! Look forward to jamming!
