Does not copyrighting your music take you off of the board for a music supervisor thats reviewing your submission?

Re: copyrighting importance
I'm no expert, but I would say NO, you won't be taken off the board. In fact, you do not need to register a work with the government to have ownership. If you put any of your ideas in "tangible form," then the work is your work. You automatically get the rights to...
- distribute the work
- display the work in public
- make a derivative work
- copy the work
- license the work to who ever you want (check me on this one)
- something else, I'm missing one
I'm paraphrasing Don Passman's book about the music business. Don doesn't really go in depth about production music, but his book is still an interesting book to read.
I hope that helps.
