Who got this forward????

Post by christig » Fri Mar 20, 2009 4:11 am

Who got this Forward? The last few weeks my thermometer says it’s forty but it feels 20. The wind is blowing a chill like no other. A ray of sun teases and torments as it struggles to break through the dark and threatening clouds. It seems like it never will. Rain and wind predicted for the future. The trip we had planned preempted by landslides along the road we needed to travel. One of life’s many bumps and bruises along the way. Little by little the Robins start to appear and join thousands of other happy birds. They sing their songs as they search for mates and build new homes. Out of all the birds, the Robins always bring the biggest smile to my face. I love how they bounce along on the lawn. I open my window for the first time in months just to hear their song. I love how they sing, so simple so sweet. My husband and I take a tour of our yard. I’d forgotten about the lilies I had planted last fall. The green had already pushed through the soil by 3 inches! Another smile as I imagined their yellow blossoms adorning the yard in just a few short weeks. That ray of sun so elusive just days earlier was warming our backs as we stood in our short sleeves by our pond taking inventory of how many goldfish survived the cold winter months.I am more than eager to let go of winter and move forward into spring. I choose to enjoy the moments of sun and accept the rain as it nourishes and replenishes the earth. I could curse the bitter wind as it relentlessly stings my skin but somehow I find it within me to embrace it; for I know without it I would never see blue skies. As I finish this writing and my last cup of coffee I am eager to get back into the studio to sow more seeds that will someday blossom. Today, like the Robins I will sing my song not because of who might be listening but because it’s just who I am.Happy first day of spring! Christi

Thanks for weighing in Devin, reasondemon and djb. It is a beautiful thing to make music- no matter what the level or whether or not there is any income attached.

hi Christi--and there's one cool song there somewhere, in those things that grow and emerge that you/we forgot we ever planted! wonderful vibe, wonderful thought and concept! and i love it when stuff comes up that we forgot all about planting--a wonderful life lessen and such a nice surprise. was in the safeway the other day with the wife and i heard "hi coach" and i turned and saw this 6 foot kid who i didn't recognize at all, but got outta it by saying "hey kid, how are you?" and he knew i didn't remember him, and said "i'm ....from little league" and well, i finally did remember him, and we talked, and he thanked me for coaching him (he wasn't very good, and those were the kids i loved the most and sometimes yelled at the most too...LOL...but they always knew i cared. he's a swimmer now or something, but you just never know when the good will spring up and bite you in the ass!!geeze, must be sunday, end of sermon, sorry...long winded again.the best,wh

Hi Warren,Thanks for commenting. How exciting re: your former your student recognizing you. That is one of the big rewards about teaching.Out of approximately 100 reads thus far, it doesn't appear that too many caught the metaphor about planting then reaping sometimes much later. (Or any of the other metaphors for that matter). Maybe the positive threads just aren't as easy to respond to. It must take more work and thought. Glad you got the 'forward'. Christi
