Public Domain Songs (in general)

Post by tresero » Tue Oct 01, 2019 1:43 pm

I have a few PD songs I did for a project years ago (they are evergreen, Cuban stuff), but never thought of licensing them. Now I see requests for PD stuff, but am wondering how I get paid (there is no writer, so does the writers share just go to me?) Confused, and I would love to use them.

Thanks

It may depend on your PRO that you are affiliated with.

This is from the BMI info (my PRO):

Arrangements of Public Domain Works
Copyrighted arrangements of works in the public domain (classical and popular) will be credited at 20% of the otherwise applicable rate of payment for popular songs for all performances, with the exception of the Live Classical Concert distribution, where no payment is made for performances of arrangements of public domain works.

Interesting, but that's not covering sync is it? 20% isn't much :( probably not worth it.
