Hey LamarI see merit in both approaches. The early Surf records were fairly simple productions. So I like Mix 2 from that viewpoint. Mix 3 perhaps has too many moving parts.I like some aspects of it. There are other aspects of which I am less enthusiastic. I'll keep tinkering with it. Who knows? I may end up submitting both.
I think the sparse approach suits that genre. I think the differences between mix 2 and 3 aren't so great that submitting both would be that beneficial. Why not be bold and really strip back a mix 4 and put that in for a giggle?
The bass on both mixes is still blowing up my headphones and monitors robbing clarity from the mids and highs [maybe I'm just sensitive in that area?].
