It is definitely not little! tt Errr, excuse me! I got Liverpool mixed up with Flint, MI, where Grand Funk Railroad came from! No offense to Flint, but I remember playing there when I was younger with a great horn band. We were booked into a "Biker Bar," and I was, let's just say, out of my element. There were fights every night, knives flashing, and one night someone had a .45 and grabbed our soundman as a shield when the fight went out into the parking lot.My favorite story from that week in hell was us, as a band, trying to figure out the crowd. We played oldies, hard rock, country, everything. Nothing worked. It was like when the Blues Brothers played that country bar. The crowd just stared at us.Finally, after a straight-ahead rock number, there was dead silence. We just stood there on the stage, ready to get attacked. Then, a male voice from the back of the room yelled out "Goddamn it, play something f*#k!^g MELLOW!"Well, we pulled out all the old 6/8 slow numbers, and the dance floor was packed! Aha --- bumping fuzz was the answer! I apologize to those from Liverpool, but if you want to know more about Flint, watch Michael Moore's movie "Roger and Me." --- Whew!Ern

I am not even going to bother writing more than that. Jesus!!!!!Since I'm only 19, OF COURSE you're too old already. I mean...you have to ASK?

Hmmm....Oslin and Tunstall were both well into their thirties before being "discovered", so it works either way...

Hi Ang,I've actually been mulling this over since you posted this. A lot of great replies. My basic reply after having thought about it for a while is that I don't think there's any age limit on being "relevant" in or to the music industry. I think you'd definitely limit your chances if you only approached things with the concept that only a performance career was "relevant". Diane Warren and Kara DioGuardi are certainly two of the most relevant individuals in the music industry... both well past 26 and neither one focused on performance. I don't think you'd be too bummed out being either one of them. So whether it's performing, writing, composing, teaching or (the most likely scenario) a combination of all of those... being "relevant" is really a matter of hard work and patience. Fortunately, age is just a thing that brings the experience to make that hard work and patience easier to deal with. Look forward to every year... Dave

I just remembered my first podcast was on this topic...Is there artistry after 30? Do you check an artist's birthdate before buying their CDs? Does it matter WHEN you start, or does it just matter THAT you start? Do I make sense when I've had no sleep? Do I make sense anyway?http://www.mevio.com/shows/?sId=12238&mId=54274

Pretty young faces sells records. Two words... ...Milli Vanilli.... You have to be the entire package to sell records. Its sad, but true. Not my belief at all. But that's the way it is for the mainstream. That will never change.A band I use to be in 4 years ago had a t-shirt that said, "real musicians are ugly" on the back. We always felt that held pretty darn true.

Actually, the REAL reason my band didn't get signed awhile ago (although we were on the cusp of being "too old") was the A&R weasels thought our multi-instrumentalist was too fat. Seriously! This guy played everything: Keys, Guitars, Harmonica, Sax, Flute, Violin, Percussion, and sang like a bird. He was everything you'd want in a band member, except he coulda tossed in a few salads. Sad, but true.Ern
