I am new and really have no idea what I’m doing. I know a lot of you have extreme talent and expertise. Here are some of my songs. Do you think they even have potential?

Hi Jkbutcher!
I think they definitely have potential! The thing that I many times come back to with newer members is that it usually pays off to start creating tracks *specifically for listings*, instead of tryin to find listings that fit tracks you've already created. There are lots of little things you learn along the way when you do it this way, and every new track you create is an opportunity to apply what you learned the last time around.
Definitely be checking out the instrumental listings section and see if there is anything that you think you could do. From there, pay super close attention to the details of the listing itself and the reference tracks, and then take your best shot. If it's forwarded... awesome! If not, you'll get a reason as to why and something specific that you can now focus on improving for your next track. Either way, it's a positive thing if you react the right way!
Hope that helps some.. good luck with your music endeavors!

Re: What genre and need opinions on the songs!
I only listened to bits and pieces of each of the tracks, skipping around a bit to see how arrangements developed, rather than listening straight through (due to time constraints). The last one felt on the classical side, while the other three felt a bit more like piano-based relaxation music (with other instruments added, of course). The performances and recording quality sounded good to my ears.
Beyond the suggestion about writing/recording for the listings, when it comes to music you already have the key is to read the listings to see if they seem like they might be in the ballpark of something you might have, then, most importantly, listen to the reference tracks to see if they seem like they are similar to something you've got. And that "something you've got" could be a recording that is ready to go already, or it might be a case where what you've got is in the ballpark, but if you remixed it, perhaps adding or subtracting tracks, it could be a much better fit.
Case in point: I just hit one year in TAXI this time around (I was also a member for a year back in 2010-2011), and I mostly write and record for the listings, but I've also done a fair bit of remixing (usually with changing some sounds, sometimes replacing a bunch of tracks altogether) of older recordings to tailor things to listings, and I've even pitched a few recordings as is. I've only gotten two forwards in that year. One of those was an electronica recording I sent in as is (I'd written it to a listing last time I was in TAXI, and it didn't get forwarded, but it felt close enough to a new, different listing that I figured was worth a shot). The other was a remix of the title song from my first album where the only thing I kept from that recording was the vocals (though I did additional tuning on the lead vocal) and some of the notes from the strings (but I thinned the arrangement and tweaked it in other ways, in addition to totally replacing the virtual instruments used), replacing the rest of the tracks, making a mid-tempo country/American-ish thing with drums into a Dan Fogelberg-ish ballad.
But the key is really listening to the references because what one listing describes as, say, classical piano or piano-based relaxation music, might be very different from what another listing asking for the same genres.
