Quirky and Unique Instrumentals for TV Commercials

Post by mugdoor » Mon Jan 20, 2020 9:56 pm

Hi all,

https://soundcloud.com/doug-moore-6/oopsy-daisy

Let me know what you think about this song for the following listing:

A RANGE of QUIRKY and UNIQUE INSTRUMENTALS FOR TV COMMERCIALS are needed by a successful Music Licensing Company for a bunch of TV Commercial pitches!

NOTE: We are also running a TAXI Listing for Songs for TV Commercials as #S200121AD, so please don’t confuse the two!

They’re on the hunt for Instrumentals in All Tempos that fall within the general range of (but not limited to) the following references they gave to us:

“New Soul" by Yael Naim (for Apple)

"We Are Young" by Fun (for Chevy/Sonic)

"I Want It " by 3 One Oh (for Google Pixel)

"1234" by Feist (for Ipad Nano)

Although the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this pitch.

NOTE: The client is open to hearing material in ALL commercially viable styles and genres as long as the Instrumentals are unique, memorable, and playful enough to cover a variety of advertisement scenarios!

Please submit well-composed Instrumentals that have a unique vibe, sound, and style that would work well in the context of Commercial Advertising. Your Instrumentals can range from stripped-down versions to fuller productions with more instrumentation. Whichever genre or sub-genre you’re pitching, the music should have genre-appropriate instrumentation and productions. Your submissions can also have a bit of a quirky quality to them, but don’t get carried away!

Your submissions should be 2 minutes long, give or take. Non-Faded, Button/Stinger endings will work best for this pitch. Do NOT copy the referenced acts or Songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Thanks,
Doug

Yeah you got the quirky thing going but the references are all hip, indie bands. Your track sounds like an in the box sort of jingle sounding cue so to my ear it's off the mark.

Your cue puts a smile on my face, and the title is spot-on :)
I can identify the instruments other than the one playing the backbeats. Is that a classical guitar? Uke? The other lines all 'speak' and have their place. Riffing on what the other posters said, maybe juicing up the chordal instrument part could add some edge and variety.

Hi all,
Hey Doug

Definitely quirky. Quality sounds good to me. Maybe it could be a little more "humanized"? The references are possibly a little edgier. Your track almost leans towards suitable for children's TV. It could work, but if you can, push it somehow towards an edgier, more mature side of things.

My thoughts, for what it's worth...
Tom
Thanks Tom, I appreciate the feedback.

Totally see what you mean. Ya, mine is definitely not a hip, indie band sound, haha.

Thanks, I'm glad it put a smile on your face, ha. Yeah, it's a Hawaiian Uke. I tried some other instruments (mostly guitars and such) instead of the Uke, and it sounded like it didn't belong. I think with the tuba and xylophone, it's sort of bound to be a kid-sounding bouncy jingle type cue. Thanks for the feedback.
