Re: Positive Instrumental Queue
Sorry if I sent you off on a tangent. Hope you didn’t waste too much time because of that. I didn’t have the reference tracks to hand when posting. I was relying on memory from an older listing. I’ll have a listen to your latest when I get a chance.

Posted a final version, mix 7. Re-recorded the bass to hit with the kick and redid the ending acoustic. A few hours until I need to post it - get your comments in before it's too late
. Seriously though, your comments and the 'peer pressure' has taken this piece up a few notches, thank you!
Listening to the ref tracks the past day and I think this track is a bit off the request. Had fun and learned a few things though.
Also, there are a two tracks with a straight beat, I was mistaken

Re: Positive Instrumental Queue
Both tracks returned with mixed reviews.

My first two submission/returns.
I didn't really think either of these tracks would make the grade. Writing in this style was definitely a learning experience. Both were good "length, ideas, composition, vibe, guitar work. "
'Ready for anything' returned for lack of variation, layering and development arc.
"Getting some better sounds, altering/varying your theme some more, adding some more layers as you progress to help with some more developmental and dynamic arc. The bass and drums are really stiff in places... and this needs a more thought out, dramatic and composed ending."
I agree with the stiff bass and drums in the middle of the song - switch drums from the tom driven version in mix 2 to kick snare in mix 7. However I'm having a hard time understanding the repetition/arc criticism. It leaves the A section in :30 seconds, B section get strings added on second repeat, has an interlude and then comes back with a new high energy section that has new melody/sound elements. The ending could probably use a cymbal swells like 80% of the reference tracks had. Maybe I could have varied the piano melody at the beginning a bit at the beginning? Perhaps it need a more extended intro to go on that 'journey'?
The other track 'uplift' which wasn't discussed in this thread, but I linked off to it. Seemed to like the sounds more, but again lacked variation - understandable on this one. Waited to long to change up the chord progression.
"Adding more layers to your theme and varying it at some point during the process. It's a nice, well written theme, but it spends too much time in the same place, with the same instrumentation, with the same intensity, at the same dynamic level, playing the same notes, over the same chords, etc..."
Anyway, thanks again to all who listened and commented helping me with these - you rock!

Re: Positive Instrumental Queue
Hi Sam, not sure if you've already submitted this but I didn't have too many issues with the mixes and edits, the last version was probably the best. BUT, you have a low end problem. I'm sure its sounding great in your room but your monitors are not giving you an accurate picture. And since the low end is too boomy, it seems like you have to brighten everything, but that's really not the case. I was having this same problem for many, many, many years and it would drive me nuts. My final solution, other than moving house, was invest in one of those monitor correction plugins. The one I use is the IK Multimedia Arc2, comes with a measuring mic and the plugin. It has been an absolute life saver because everything translates and I can trust my ears again. If it sounds good on my speakers, I know it'll be fine for 90% of the applications out there.
It's on my last insert on every project and I never get complaints about my mixes from the reviewers, EVER, only about how the music sucks, hahaha.
Any I don't have anything to do with Ik Multimedia and don't own stock or anything, just in case any one was a-wondering!

Re: Positive Instrumental Queue
Vikas, I've submitted and gotten feedback on them. The mix was not a concern for the screener. I was A/Bing against a reference track to match the mix and did have to boost the kick drum to get the same type of sound. Might have went too far, but that's not really my concern at this point.
