I didn't join Taxi to do cues, I did it to try and push "my music". It was never going to be easy, it never has been!
What if " Your Music " isn't what ' They Need ' for their clients ?

Writing for yourself with no deadlines or concern for contemporary production is quite different to writing for someone else who needs music for a TV show or Movie. Like many of us you may find the music you've been making up to now is just not on par with or relevant to the TV/Film Licensing industry and there's a long journey ahead to get to those standards.

If you do get there though it can be very rewarding to hear your music on TV , and to later get paid some real money for it. You might see it as 'selling out' ..sure..but I see it as the opposite, Proving you can update your skillset, embrace new music and genres that we have never listened to before and eventually competing with our peers and getting some success. That takes hard work, dedication and usually a large slice of humble pie to realise how much you sucked at the start.

That sort of perspective can only come with time and a body of work to look back on that should improve month on month , year on year until it's good enough. A slice of luck here and there also help.

Like you said. Never going to be easy.

Mark

I wrote one cue recently and then thought to myself "what am I doing?" I didn't join Taxi to do cues, I did it to try and push "my music". It was never going to be easy, it never has been!
Yes. For this your music would have to match something that is being looked for on TAXI.

Tom
Yes, I think I'll make doubly sure before I send in anything again,

Cheers

Mark,

I had to laugh at your response... made me chuckle as I have listened to some stuff I recorded (on my old Fostex 4 Track, remember them?) back in the late 80s and thought, "yikes, that didn't stand the test of time". Obviously the quality was non existent, but the tune and instrumentation was pants too!
Still a lot to learn, I know.

As always, thanks very much for your help.

Now I'm going to plug my Gibson SG into my Vox and have a drink.

Cheers
