Hey Anna,

I completely agree with cosmicdolphin Mark.
I have never removed any tracks from any library.
And YES .... I have hundreds of tracks that have been in some libraries for more than ten years and have never been used.
That is just the way it is.
You just write more.....

Tim

Say what? You should take those tracks back if you can. 10 years is far too long to let music sit and make no money.

After you write so many tracks..... it doesn't even matter.
I wouldn't know them if I heard them.
Just keep writing more.

My 2 cents,
Tim

Thanks all for chiming in, I appreciate your replies! Mixed responses, as expected. Seems to be that old balance of etiquette and patience against practical business sense... Under no illusions that this is a long game, and it's not out of emotional investment that I'm considering pulling tracks.... purely doesn't seem like good business sense to leave them sitting around when there are viable opportunities on the table where I can earn immediately. I do appreciate though that sometimes it makes sense to leave things alone for a while out of letting things pan out, fostering a business relationship, keeping a connection open, etc.

Not making any rash decisions but definitely mulling everything over! Thanks for all of your input, much to think about! :)

I would just take care of business. A business would understand this. Its just business.
Haha your head is exactly where mine is.... I keep coming back to this. And I totally agree—this is how I would view things as a business owner (which I am, so this makes sense to me). However I think the thing that gives me pause is that not everyone in this business acts professionally  hard to know what you're going to be faced with....

Ding ding ding ding!! Hit the nail on the head with that one. Been seeing that a lot too. That along with the often overlapping worlds of personal relationships and business as you build outside-of-business relationships with people... makes it not so black and white. Never know how a business decision will be taken when it affects a personal relationship.

I do understand this, but if the case is clear cut that you trust the new company and they can do more for your music, then I dont. But if you are saying that you are equally unsure about both companies, sure. Then you may need more research, and maybe apply some criteria for what you believe is important when working with a company. I use track record, transparency and good communication as my set of evaluation criteria. If the people are nice, this is harder, but if not, no contest for me. I will pick with my heart every time, and sleep well.

Friends is friends, but this is business fort and foremost. Any business that holds a personal grudge is neither a good business partner or a good friend.

In short, follow the money!

My take on this is that old exclusive/non-excl thing -i.e. condition of taking the tracks will probably involve leaving some rights with that publisher due to client pitches/sub publishers /playlists etc.

So, in the short term at least, can you pitch the tracks to a new publisher as exclusive or only semi-excl/non-excl

So it could get a bit messy.
