Vocal Advice please?

Post by Albatross » Sat May 23, 2020 5:47 am

I love country music and write and record decent country songs, but invariably they get returned mainly due to a lack of 'commercial/country toned vocals'. Unquote.
As an Englishman I find this extremely difficult to pull off.
Does anyone have any suggestions for tutorials or similar? I have tried Collaboration Corner but didn't receive any replies.
Stay safe y'all!
Al

Hard to say without hearing your songs.

I suspect you either need to get someone else to sing them ( collab or WFH ) or get singing lessons which can take take a number of years to sink in.

Many thanks for reply.
I have tried Collaboration but got no response. I was hoping posting here might generate some interest.
My singing voice is ok. I've had several forwards in other categories, but I just cannot reproduce the US country twang the screeners are looking for. Shame really as a good song is a good song no matter what the accent. I rather hoped the screeners would see potential in the song rather than just judge the vocal tone, but regrettably I cannot do impressions. Maybe I should give Country Music a miss in future.

You can always hire someone from SoundBetter or Fivr or similar . If you do make sure you get a signed Work For Hire agreement as you'll need it if you sign it to a Library.

A good vocal coach / singing teacher can teach you to sing in different style but it takes time.

Learning American country music phrasing, tone and last but not least lyrical content is like learning another language! Personally I have given up trying.

I checked your post in collaboration corner and you provided no work for people to listen to so it's no wonder you didn't get any bites.

You will need to provide links to your songs to get people interested. Maybe check the forwards blog and reach out to any members featured there.

Try " A Writers Paradise " in Nashville or " Nashville Demo Factory " NDF will give you a Work for Hire if you ask them. Also, a guy named Tim Angsten would do you a really great Country voice and he is very easy to work with. Anyway check them out and good luck.
