Coxnvox,

Ideally, to me, there are two ways in which this structure could be presented with more universal appeal:

1. Change the "body buts" from 3 sixteenths to 2 eights followed by a quarter note. (At least do so the final time we hear it in the chorus.)

2. Have either a small group of singers, or a single female vocalist mimick, or "echo" the "body buts" to intentionally give it more emphasis. (Like taking something just a little bit "odd" and putting it in a position for the listeners to more immediately copy-sing and make the song memorable, more quickly.

Hope that gives you some more ideas to consider.

Best!

John Dale

I slowed it down a little and made a few changes based on feedback. Thanks for all your help and feel free to check out the new version and tell me what you think. Again, this is just a scratch...I'll have it demo'ed by a Nashville company to make it sound country for realz...

Peace!
James

There is a lot to like about your song but my feeling is the lyrics are too abstract and won't pull an artist in to cover it in its current form.

If you demo it you won't be able to use it other than a demo.

I would look for a collab on the lyrics with a country writer.

Big improvement. ("body buts" rhythm is so much more natural and easy.). Keep at it and best of luck!

Clearly Mr. Hall knows what he's talking about.

I had another listen and jammed out parts of it with that line slowed to a more uniform rhythm and it rolls off the tongue very naturally to me. I do really like the tune. If I can assist with tracking, whether it's guitar, harmony vox, or whatever, I'd be happy to contribute.
Ha! True! Thanks so much for the advice and the offer to help. I'm going to get this one demo'ed by one of the Nashville companies but I'd love to reach out to you in the future for stuff I decide to demo in house...is guitar your main instrument?
Yeah, guitar would be my main instrument, but I basically do it all. I'd be happy to help out with a future recording. I look forward to hearing the finished version of this one! Best of luck!

Thanks for all the help. I agree the lyrics could be tightened up and maybe made to pop a little more, but I went ahead and had Nashville Demo Factory record a demo. I thought they did a fantastic job and I have literally listened to it more than a hundred times already! It was worth the money to have it demo'ed just for the pure enjoyment I have gotten out of it personally. I think this guy did an amazing job of smoothing out the lyrics (especially the hook) and making it sound country. Thanks again everybody! Y'all are the best!

Clever and crafty writing, and the demo factory did a real nice job of realizing it. Well done!
