You're right, Paul. They do that now. Very helpful!Pvgeldrop wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 8:28 amI actually see that as a remark in the listings often enough, where it says 'given to us by the library/supervisor/etc'.Kolstad wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 2:44 amActually, I wish they would specify the source of the refs with each listing, because if its a supervisor looking for tracks and they have a temp, maybe the film has already been cut to the tempo of the temp track, and it could be important to provide a similar tempo or beat.

Re: Who picks the ref tracks?
Hi all,
I've only got a minute between tasks, but want to weigh in on this.
Typically, our clients give us at least one reference track to go on. Often times we get two or three, directly from them. If we feel that their ref or refs are not inline with the genre they're asking for, we contact them to let them know and get it straightened out. There are times when we add to their refs that we'll double check with them to see if they agree.
If we get a ref that's been temped into a scene, we let you know. If tempo or any other aspect is critical, we do our level best to let you know.
Sometimes the refs are there to help you "triangulate" what is needed. Attitude? Tempo? Vocal style? Instrumentation? Production style? Any of these and more. Would YOUR music fit on a playlist in this context?
Other times, they're looking for a closer match to the ref, so we work hard to find (or relay) 3 refs that are very similar.
We go to lengths that nobody else I've seen in the industry go to, to give you as much REAL world info as possible. Libraries AND Supes frequently tell us that our listings are "incredible." They half-jokingly ask if we could write their briefs for them. Typical industry briefs read more like: "Need something snappy, fun and quirky for a party scene." Not kidding!!
Hope this helps,
Michael
