This is the second listing I have seen where the library has asked for British singers only. I thought the music was the most important thing in the placement rather than where a person is born/from. I get that they want a British sound but a lot of British groups don't sing with their accent. I have a Beatles-style song that I wrote and produced which got forwarded but I cannot submit to the listing based on my birthright. Is this another form of discrimination? Will candidates need to present a passport for verification? I apologize if I am too forward but I was a bit taken aback by this.
My personal opinion is that you do not have to be British to understand the British invasion. Maybe I can stretch it and say I am from Canada which is part of the British Commonwealth. LOL.

Thanks Tom,CTWF wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 7:57 amMaybe it is worth to do work-for-hire with a British singer?
Here some thoughts re non-Americans members:
- Some References (sometimes all) not available in my country.
- TAXI TV so late at night, I cannot listen and get Chirardelli's plugins.
Point being - it is not on purpose, it just is what it is.
Tom
I am also a non-American member so I can appreciate your response. I am very sorry that you are not privy to listings not available in your country. Can you give some examples? The taxi television is unfortunate and is a result of time differences though. There was no intent to discriminate against you that I am aware of as whatever time picked, someone always would lose out around the world. Being on the east coast, I get the program around 7pm and for you it is after midnight. I am sorry for this too.
I suspect this particular "British Only" listing violates the "US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission". It is under the clause of "National Origin Discrimination". The library may be outside the US, but the listing is within and so I think that this may fall under that. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

In the Song industry, it is largely accepted that songs sung with an American accent, even by British artists work best. I am British, Living in London, but I don't sing, so I feel I can be a bit objective here.
There are occasions, where for example in an ad, where an American accent might not be so well received (it would not help sell the product or service). If an ad ad agency is selling a product aimed at the British market putting their product across as a typically British product, whatever that is, then they might want the song to be sung by a Brit.
Taxi is all about giving the end consumer, be it a label, ad agency or film producer exactly what they want. They then pass those opportunities on to us writes/performers/producers. If the listing offends you, don't take the gig!
There are many many listings every week and I'd say, as a member of 3 years + there is something for everyone to get their creative chops into.

I recall other locational listings - pretty rare I think - vaguely recall one that required a Canadian and others requiring to be local to a location.
It's more like picking who you buy supplies from internationally
Or hiring someone local
Guess it could be challenged if people in the US can apply but only if they are a Brit (in this example)
Probably best to avoid the minefield but it is a vague area anyway - there can be valid reasons to be specific about country and location and people use it everytime they call a plumber
