Eric, I would probably agree with the seven years too! For me, I think the next three years will be crucial as I try to not only increase the number of compositions I create, but continue to improve my arranging and production quality. Of course the industry will continue to demand a better product, and as you mentioned earlier, how will the landscape of what is needed from a musical standpoint look like? I would think that making the connections now with other music libraries and with established song supervisors is key to navigating the uncertainty of the film and television industry and its future needs?

Best,

what i've noticed is as technology advances and more people join the party, the higher the bar gets raised (productionwise). i doubt the stuff i made 7yrs ago would get me into established libs now, and stuff im making now would not cut it in 7yrs (unless luck strikes & its exactly what they need). even RF is getting tougher, gone are the days of dumping your rejects into reputable RF libs and make bank. thats where relationships come in, folks who are willing to take in your "ok" tracks due to tenure & reliability...

Thank you all for your kind answers, great input all over the place. And thanks to Carl for creating the thread :D
Good luck with your music (I've checked your SC and is very professional you surely deserve more deals) and screenwriting too! :)

Funny...can never guess at what they want. Just had notification on my submissions from a few months back... One made it through, it was a Taxi Return in April 2016

That's Great Mark! It's always nice when one of our older children (songs) find a home.... lol

I have gotten several tracks that were rejected by Taxi placed sometimes I've made changes other times I've left the tracks as is..... What guys need to understand is that Taxi has an extremely high standard.... higher than the industry.... why? because it's not bad songs that are the enemy of great it's mediocre and Taxi can not get in the business of promoting mediocre songs it would kill there credibility..... But the industry will take mediocre songs all day long and many will get placed in shows..... Like I've said Taxi is a tool to be used to help you but they don't do it for you

go figure, i started submitting tracks to them based on what folks say they cater to with no luck, the track they accepted was just a filler to round out the 3 slots and contradictory to the advice given. thats why i avoid making comments like "they're not gonna take that", best to let them find out for themselves cause you never know when stars align

true that, and as per briefs, we (including taxi) are all at the mercy of the info given by the libs on what they want, one particular lib would even send out a second email to explain further or change references cause no one seems to be getting it. you cant blame yourself (or taxi) for the miscomm, just part of the game you have to live with
