Thanks Derek - I write the parts using my handy dandy logic midi scroll bar to put the notes in. I can hear the parts in my head, but still can't get my brain and fingers to play what I hear. Maybe someday...I've been trying to write a "track" per day since I came home from the rally - short/ long / good /bad /complete or not - mostly I just record whatever I'm fiddling with until I like some aspect of it and use that as a starting point. It is making me faster at coming up with different ideas and writing them out. Now if I could just play an instrument...

What if I don't even have lyrics yet? There's just this idea that I've been rolling around in my head for more than a year now, and ... as I've been reading Robin Frederick's new book (which, BTW y'all, is AMAZING...ORDER it...it READS just like her live workshops feel...energetic, no BS, and fast-moving), I've begun to realize that I have the talent and the smarts to actually tackle these lyrics myself. OR, at least get them started. So what I'm doing right now is simply trying to build the "backstory" for the characters in this tune. Will that count? If so, I'm in.

Oh, wait. I've just remembered that this was KINDA all about writing something new for one of the new listings. I'm just working on a new song. It doesn't even have a melody yet. And I'm not aiming for any particular listing. But even MORE importantly, there is NO WAY on earth this will be finished in time for ANY listing with a DUE date prior to August. (Not at this pace, anyway...) So I may need to respectfully bow out of this one...(Won't stop me from working on it, though... )Ted

You could post whatever you have done at the end of the week. A verse & chorus? Doesn't HAVE to be for a listing, that was just a suggestion

man--(oops, lady...)i've got three demos i'm nursing the next couple days, and a total rewrite of an older tune that just blossomed into a "new" tune, problem is, it will sound more like a POS than some of my own productions...so i may pass on this, but still working hard! i do have a "new" instrumental i JUST posted on peer, if you or anyone can comment on. but i'm thinking, hmmm, maybe...the best, warren
