Re: Thanksgiving Challenge - write & post your pie
Woops, I posted this last night in "peer" instead of here. I need to learn to follow instructions! I started out shooting for a retro ala "Squeeze" song . . . don't really know whay because I've never seen a listing for such an animal. Anyway, as usual (for me) it morphed into something unidentifiable I think.http://www.billgaunce.com/song/100

Stream the song TRIPTIChttp://www.taxi.com/patellweinor download here...http://www.taximusic.com/download/19029 ... Enjoy! This is waaay cool. I think you should get extra points for inventing a word too.

Hey kids,Little Timmy W here. Here's what I'm working on and where I'm at so far. Just posting lyrics for now, although I do have an arrangement and a melody. Trying to bang this out for a Tuesday deadline for the following listing.AMERICANA/ALT COUNTRY/FOLK SONGS WITH VOCALS in the range of Drive-By Truckers, Uncle Tupelo, Ryan Adams, Josh Rouse, Mindy Smith, Hem, Patty Griffin, Gillian Welch, Over The Rhine, etc. are needed by an East Coast Music Library/Publisher for the purpose of Film/TV placements and licensing. This company has signed and placed dozen of TAXI songs, and offers a non-exclusive deal. Songs that have universal lyrics which are general enough to apply to many different scenarios/scenes/plots/etc. will take priority. Excellent performances and a sound that falls directly in the range of the referenced artists will be essential. All tempos will be considered, but mid to uptempo will take priority. Lyrics that aren't too dark or specific will work well for this listing, for a wide variety of placement opportunities. What Am I Gonna Do?Hey, what am I gonna do with all these fresh painted hallwaysPiles of gifts wrapped in silverand this stack full of cardsHey, they're all made out to Mr. & Mrs.What to do with napkins & dishesI'd rather eat on the floorWatch black and white tvand never turn up the soundHey, what am I gonna do?Burning incense and pictures of youHey what am I gonna do?With this upcoming downtime? With this upcoming downtime?Hey, what am I gonna do with angry calls from your motherblack-eye threats from your brotherI can't answer the phoneHey, which one of us gets that smoke-filled dive-barthe one you and I found on South Clark?Where I gave you a ring. That you wore for awhileNow it don't mean a thingHey, what am I gonna dopawning diamonds, no borrowed or blueHey, what am I gonna dowith this upcoming downtimewith this upcoming downtime[Insert yet-to-be-written, perfectly appropriate bridge here ]Chorus x2Out.

Re: Thanksgiving Challenge - write & post your pie
hey geoff, pretty nice in the middle of the day for about three min. of much needed relaxation too! Here's my second entry & it's lyrics only for now. My dad used to have a saying he'd use everytime you ask him if he was going to do something. he's say ,"yep, if the good Lord's willin' and the creek don't rise." About 10 years ago he was rushed to the hospital in a coma. For a couple of days I sat there with him and just watched him sleep. All of a sudden he opened his eyes and made a very non-politically correct comment about a nurses rear end that just happened to be bending over picking up something she had dropped. We had a laugh, I told him he really had me scared this time. We talked for a bit & then I told him I was going to go home to get some rest but that I would be back & would see him first thing in the morning. He replied with his usual "If the good Lord's willin' and the creek don't rise." That night he closed his eyes and never opened them again. So anyway, those were his last words to me.Here's my song about my dad called "The Good Lord Willin". My dad knew 6 chords on a guitar . . G,C,F, Am, E, Em. As sort of a tribute I'm going to try to work up the music using only those chords. The Good Lord Willin’Bill GaunceSome say my dad was a son of a gunBut he was born in the country, a farmer’s sonHe still lived at home when she turned his headA country girl with hair of redShe said “marry me”& he kissed her eyesAnd said “good Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise”Runnin’ wild and free so the story tellsWasn’t long after those wedding bellsDad took off sailin’ on the seven seasBlamed it on the birds & beesShe said “come back soon” & he kissed her eyesSaid “good Lord willin’ & the creek don’t rise”Bell bottom blues and a dixie cupThat’s how I remember him growin’ upFrom a foreign land he’d bring a toyAnd tell me I was always his favorite boyI’d say “are ya comin’ back?” then he’d kiss my eyesAnd say “Good Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise”Time flies by, way to soonAnd I was at his side in that hospital roomDidn’t say good-bye to my best friendDidn’t know that we were at the endI said “I’ll see ya’ tomorrow”, then he closed his eyesAnd said “Good Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise”Some people say I’m the son of a gunBut I grew up a sailor’s sonAnd my kids drop by every now and thenTo hear my story ‘bout a sailor manThey say “see ya soon” & I kiss their eyesI tell ‘em “good Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise”
