Vintage music is in high demand, and if a publisher can secure the rights of some good unpublished music for cheap, they can get it placed in some show and drive the value up, and then press it for vinyl afterwards. That market is booming right now.
The propositional value of a master recording ℗ used to be about 5x times the value of the © copyright, but the business case for vintage recordings is probably a bit higher, maybe 10 to 1. Publishers are aware of this, musicians not at all.
Just look at the big catalogs sold at the moment. Same business case. Owning those rights is good, and if you own a good batch of them, it’s a solid investment.
