NU-disco

Before recording the vocals... do you think I'm on the right track for the listing below?

https://soundcloud.com/zaychi/nu-disco/ ... 37ccd27b45

NU-DISCO SONGS are needed by a Record Label that's distributed by a HUGE Dutch Electronic Music Record Label.

This Label is currently on the hunt for Songs that would fit on a playlist with the following references:

"Chemicals" by SG Lewis
<<my main main ref track - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktlJC21 ... GLewisVEVO

"Like U" by Final DJs

"Fascination (sparkx Remix)" by Reggie Got Beats & Vebjørn Mamen

"Can't Get Enough" by Birdee & Andre Espeut

Tracks with no vocals, typical Pop lyrical/song structure, or more minimal, repetitive vocals are ALL okay to submit to this opportunity.

Please send top-notch Nu-Disco Songs with funky beats, engaging motifs, catchy hooks, and '70's Disco-influenced instrumentation. Please be sure that your production and any virtual instruments or samples you use are polished and fresh. If you're submitting tracks with vocals, they should be super compelling and well-performed.

Your production and recording quality needs to be clean, clear, well-balanced, and good enough to represent your Songs well. Do NOT copy the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture, and overall vibe.

TAXI Tip: We recommend that you submit at least THREE SONGS per submission so they can see if you’ve got depth in your material.

The overall deal points for this will be negotiated directly with the Label on a song-by-song basis. You must own or control your Master and Composition to submit to this pitch. Please submit as many Songs as you like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Saturday, November 6th, 2021. TAXI # S211106NU

Hey Zaychi. Nice track and I think you're on the right path.

Since I'm a bass player that's what I'll comment on.

There appears to be something odd in your synth bass and the bass and drums are crucial in this genre. Even though this is an artist pitch that bass part would distract me from the entire feel of the song.

1) I think one thing may be that your synth bass notes don't cut off quick enough and your bass part is a lot more busy (passing notes etc). The reference has a very simple repeating bass line in the intro
2) Also the ref track has a real bass and he's cutting off his notes quickly, and it sounds to me like the bass is being doubled by an elec gtr right off the bat.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

I really liked the track overall -- love the choices you made with the patches and the way it builds up. I would agree with Johnny that the bass is distracting at times and doesn't alway sound 100% in tempo with track. Very nice work overall, sounds great. Doug

Hi. To me, it's missing the three things from the listing: funky beats, catchy hooks and 70's instrumentation. Sorry, that's just my honest opinion. I think we're to be honest and help, not to make friends. Although that would be nice too.

Thanks Johnny and Douglas, I'll go over the bass track again with these comments in mind. Much appreciated!

Karafinman, thanks as well, I agree sugarcoating doesn't help anyone! Please say what you hear, not what you think others want you to say!

It sounds like a bad cover version of the ref track made on a cheap casio keyboard to me. It's missing quite a few elements like the guys already mentioned but even if those are fixed the sound/production just sounds cheap and not well produced and would tick the box of ' low quality samples' in the Taxi feedback I think.

The ref track has a funky guitar part in it, but you seem to have used a cheesy horrible sounding guitar patch from a keyboard instead. Do you bring the ref tracks into your DAW so you can A/B your mix / production ?

None of the actual sounds are up to scratch to get it over the production bar. If a sample / synth doesn't sound up to the same level of the refs then simply don't use it and get better sounds.

Mark
